News from the Gilbert islands via missionary John Williams reports severe weather preceding tidal forces that caused devastating waves. One island records about eighty native deaths and widespread destruction, with the track of the waves unknown and further details awaited. Also noted: the monitor Miantonomah nearing readiness for sea, five days ahead of schedule.
United States troops dispatched to the frontier amid mounting activity at San Antonio and Fort McIntosh. An inquest was ordered but no visit was made to his brother Itheffield Gan who had fallen and broken his tie. A letter claimed Mr. Fsee never visited him, though he had intended to. The case involves a stockholder from York Hi Wine and other unclear connections as authorities seek information about Cheney’s whereabouts.
