Honors Daymarks for FHS students across activities
FHS held its annual Honors Day Convocation on Monday May 12 naming students who excelled in vocal and instrumental music X ray trail Tri Y Booster Club and athletics. Awards recognized leadership, outstanding work in clubs, publications and sports with Danforth Foundation books awarded to leaders. Rev Stephenson delivered the day’s address.

Senior Jim Stevenson Wins $40 Scholarship at Arts Festival
FHS senior Jim Stevenson was awarded a $40 scholarship at the Fine Arts Festival held at the University of Nebraska. About 600 contestants competed with only 20 scholarships awarded. Jim also earned a superior rating for his violin solo. He serves as business manager of the Trail, participates in a capella group and mixed octette, and appeared in the senior class play.

Baccalaureate Service Set For May 18
The annual Baccalaureate service will be held Sunday evening May 18 at eight o clock in the high school auditorium. Rev J LaVerne Jay of the Methodist Church will deliver the message and the Methodist choir will perform. Ministers from Fairbury churches will participate.

The advanced class works on 100 and 120 word dictation with passes by Beverly Hellwig Bill Nuckolls Betty Terrill Dar lene Holstrom and Betty Eaton who achieved 120 words. Top performers reach 40 to 60 wpm with Meredyth Speir at 50 and Beverly Hellwig at 60 for 10 minutes.

Joe Lesher and Harold Germer, juniors, were chosen as Cornhusker Boys State delegates for June 9 to 15 at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. The program teaches state and local government through practical exercises including mock offices and real court sessions.

Fairbury FFA Chapter Clinches State Honors
The Fairbury Chapter won blue ribbon and wall plaque for best chapter and earned red ribbon wall plaque and dollars in a state unity contest. John Snyder placed third in the state public speaking contest. Carl Gerwick and Richard Reports joined two Farm? men on the trip, with Harold Germer, Richard Dux, OEM Kriesel, and Leland Witt reporting. A chartered Fairbury bus carried the group and other District I chapters joined the ride.
