Malone First In Oratorical Contest

Marvin Malone, FHS senior, won the local American Legion Post oratorical contest on Constitution in a Changing World and received a $25 war bond. Louie Falcon, Kimon Kara Batso s, and Dorothy Hager followed in second through fourth with $10, $5, and unspecified prizes as they prepared extemporaneous speeches on the First Amendment.

A Capella Group Heads to Music Clinic

Tri Y Delegates Attend Hastings Hi Teen Conference

Four Tri Y members attended the Hastings Hi Teen conference on Saturday March 6. The event featured panel discussions a tea dance and a noon luncheon. Reports will be given at the next regular meeting on March 17.

Hanley Marionettes Geared for Stage Puzzles and Puppets

The Marionette show presents The Man on the Flying Trapeze Popeye and Olive Oyl The Three Little Pigs and other acts. Puppets like the Dancing Skeleton and Roller Skating Clown demand expert manipulation to avoid tangled strings. Teddy the announcer wins audience affection. Band Festival and Clinic Highlight School Month

Beatrice hosts the band festival on the 26th with Crete Northeast Beatrice Wymore Wilber and Filley among participants. A mass band from attending groups will perform and a Peru MINK Clinic trip follows with seventeen members trying out. Forty students earned honor roll in the first six weeks of the second semester with sixteen seniors on the list.

The Fairbury FHA girls presented a skit titled Yea FHA today March 14 to illustrate the organization’s principles. Students engaged in a variety of activities as part of special reports on current events and topics of interest.

Fourteen Fairbury High School Hi Y members attended the Hastings conference. Attendees include Richard Schoenrock Dick Sleigh Allen Wood Lonnie Weidenhaft Richard Marshall Rodney Wylie Bob Likens Ronald Lind Bill Coleman Andrew Walker Dick Farrow and sponsor Kenneth Youst. They will report impressions at the March 20 regular meeting. The local meeting program will feature a one act play by the dramatics class.

FFA FHA to Host Annual Barn Dance Night

The FFA and FHA will hold their annual barn dance on March 25 with a crowning ceremony for the FFA queen. The gym will be decorated as a barn and a variety of entertainment is planned.

Pep Club Closes Fall Season With Active Activities

Pep Club ends fall season with active involvement at basketball and football games handing out programs and delivering skits at rallies. Members organized the Christmas Vesper Program and managed refreshments during National Education Week open house for parents.
