Monday night the Dan Kavanaugh hardware store was robbed via back window entry, padlock broken with a crowbar, yielding about 300 pocket knives and several high priced revolvers. Loss estimated around $300 with no clues. locals suspect insiders knew the shop. The note mentions political candidacy discussions unrelated to the crime.
New candidates surface for local offices as O H Bonney may seek register of deeds, Charley Hoppe declares for county commissioner, and John P Thiessen is discussed for state senator. Local chatter notes Jefferson County’s turn to supply the senator, with insiders hinting at a planned switch or surrender.
Last Sunday afternoon the K of P lodge in the city gathered at their hall with about fifty members to pay respects to the departed. After services they proceeded to the cemetery where eighteen graves were decorated. The Fairbury band assisted in the services.
Miss Gladys Miller of Daykin supervised a sting that led to the conviction of Mrs. Kate Haake of Daykin in Lincoln federal court for sending German language obscene mail. Haake faced five counts, found guilty on three, with $75 in fines suspended after counsel argued for mercy.
Geo Kates of Reynolds was attacked on a Northwest side street last Saturday evening. A man leaped from behind a tree between Seventh and Eighth streets and struck him, leaving him senseless. He reported the robbery of 35 dollars in currency after recovering and alerting police. officers suspect the injury may have been from another cause as Jones’ story seems inconsistent.
E J Purcell longtime Fairbury resident died June 13 1910 at his daughter Anna Crummett’s home after a long illness. Funeral held from the home conducted by Rev Marvin E Gilbert. He was born March 4 1833 in Wheeling West Virginia and married Elizabeth Henderson then Emily Gray. He leaves wife Emily two daughters Esther Williams and Mrs Gradnon Colorado and a son in Grand Island Nebraska. buried in Fairbury cemetery. member of the Masonic order.
Voters cast 419 ballots with 353 supporting water bonds and 66 opposing, amid little street talk and voter transport. The one proposition simplified counting as results were announced within a half hour, signaling the transfer finality after a price agreement between the city and the Light Company.

Elizabeth Connelly born near Charleston Illinois on September 13 1841 died June 1st in Endicott Nebraska after a long illness. She married Henry Clay Dawson on April 2 1872 and is survived by her husband seven children Ira M. and Thomas C. of Bennet Walter L. once Lancaster County Clerk James T. Deputy Sheriff Chas J and Philip C. of Endicott and Eva Hord of Central City. Funeral services were held at her home Wednesday conducted by Rev. Marvin E. Gilbert and burial followed in Fairbury cemetery.
Mr. Ben F Burbridge heads to Spokane on Wednesday while a planned Glee Club gathering Tuesday ends in a dinner error. Cavanagh was invited by mistake, and dissatisfied with the meal, he sought help from the boys after ten o clock.
Thomas Langdon Jr and Miss Georgia Price of Steele City wed at the courthouse with Judge C C Boyle performing the ceremony. The couple will reside in Steele City where Langdon holds a mill position.
