Lighting the square in Fairbury eyed by club directors
Wednesday evening the Fairbury Commercial club directors met again to consider lighting the square. A committee was chosen to hire a man to draw plans for the proposed lighting system and later seek bids on the project.

Transfers reshuffle Rock Island office staff
Thursday of last week F. L. Waterman, chief clerk in the Rock Island superintendent's office for a year, was moved to Belleville Kansas to take the yard master post. O. H. Buchanan rose to chief clerk, and Forest Gardner became stenographer to the superintendent.

Miss Maxine Mohrbacher Hosts Birthday Party for Gladys France
Last evening from 6 30 to 8 o clock Miss Maxine Mohrbacher entertained twenty four of her little friends for Miss Gladys France of St Joe visiting. Ice cream cake and lemonade were served after games in a neighborhood home party setting.

City council rejects plan for public works board
Saturday night the council rejected forming a board to control water works electric light plant and sewers. An ordinance was read but failed on its first reading with two in favor and six against. The mayor threatened to appoint a committee if passed. The ordinance was again rejected on Tuesday by the same vote. The mayor then hired H F Hole to organize the water office. A notable local citizen died in Diller after long illness. Funeral drew many attendees including masons and Eastern Star members.

Death notices from Jefferson County area
The death of Joshua Robinson occurred at his home southwest of Diller and his funeral was held at the Methodist church. In Jansen Mrs. Conrad Paul died and her funeral was at Cub Creek Lutheran church with burial in Jansen cemetery. Mrs. Paul, born in Germany in 1850, lived in Jefferson County and is survived by her husband a son and a daughter.

Three-Valve Sanitary Drinking Fountain Installed at Old High School
A three valve sanitary drinking fountain was installed in the old high school building at cost. The project received £16.75 from red cross stamps sales and a donation from the Womens Club. The fountain has been a success and other city buildings may receive sanitary drinking fountains next school year.

Sunday School Picnic Near Fairbury
Last Monday evening Mrs. Hardy and M. E. Joslin's class entertained Mrs. L. M. Nelson and Wm. Stewart's class. The picnic was held on the H. D. Benson farm three miles south of Fairbury. About sixty people attended with ice cream cake and a regular picnic lunch served.
