The city council passed an ordinance tightening saloon controls aligning with state law limits. Provisions ban window obstructions, require the bar 20 feet from the front door, prohibit wine rooms, and cap furniture to two settees a table and chairs. May 27 neighbors gathered for Mr and Mrs Smiths birthday anniversary party in Endicott with several local families in attendance.
O Vanier purchased the Bone Stutevoss lumber yard at Sixth and D streets for 14000 dollars. He will take possession Wednesday morning next week. D E Bone and H Stutevoss are selling all real estate and plan to leave by July first with families for Seattle Washington. Vanier is an experienced and successful lumber business man.
Miss Eleanor Andrews entertained Monday afternoon in honor of her sister Mrs E C Ames of Lincoln. Guests included Mesdames Leon Crandall John Heasty Warren Perry Jay McDowell Ona Cramb H O Nellis J H Bond F E Tincher W F Schultz T E Mendenhall and Misses Cora McDowell Lillian Lindell.

Word reached this city Tuesday of the death of Mrs Eugene Byllsby at her Newton Iowa home. Interment will be in Columbus Nebraska, leaving a husband and two small children. The Byllsby family formerly resided here where Mr Byllsby managed Fairmont Creamery plant. They left town three or four years ago.
Mr and Mrs J B McDowell hosted a reception at their Fifth and H street home in Fairbury for Jay C McDowell of Minneapolis and his wife The event marked their first visit since marriage A large turnout attended with Clyde McDowell from New York aiding in hosting and multiple families assisting with punch refreshments and decor featuring pink roses and tulle bows.
Miss Bertha Goldsmith of this city and Evan D. Thomas of San Diego California were married Wednesday May 24 1911 at Diller by Rev S Goldsmith uncle of the bride. Mrs Goldsmith was a successful Jefferson county teacher. They will reside in San Diego where they departed last Tuesday.
Two birth notices report a boy born May 26 to Mr and Mrs John Alexandria and another boy born May 28 to Mr and Mrs Daniel Gill.
Edward G. Phelps officiates as Iva Sowder enters into marriage with George Seachard and Mildred Hatfield as the couple joins in wedlock at a quiet ceremony.
The Fairbury Band plans a special Beatrice Races trip on June 15 with a train from Fairbury. They require selling 150 tickets at fifty cents each to guarantee the event, with proceeds benefiting the band. Fans are urged to buy now or donate tickets to friends who can attend.
The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Vandecar living four miles northeast of Fairbury died last Tuesday evening. The funeral was held Thursday at 10 a.m. from the home with Rev. E. B. Taft officiating.
Eleven young ladies attended a house party at the Grace Bee farm five miles north on Wednesday afternoon. Miss Espie McLean acted as chaperone and the group planned to stay until Saturday morning.
Miss Carrie Yontz hosted a social evening for Miss Edith Bailey who was visiting the city. About fifteen longtime residents attended and shared memories of former times. Light refreshments were served at the close of the pleasant gathering.
Bus visits, calls, and social visits mark the week as W E Murphy trips to Lincoln, Miss Polly Baker shops in Fairbury, and Miss Katherine Hole returns home from Nelson. Several residents travel to Denver Hastings Omaha and Kansas locales while others host guests and attend dances and school closures.
Soldiers and members of the G A R and W R C observed Decoration Day with a 1 15 pm assembly at the G A R hall. A procession included the Fairbury band firing squad G A R members flower girls and W R C members. A church program featured music by quartets piano solo and an address by Capt C E Adams of Superior. Graves of eighty four departed members were decorated at the cemetery.
Russell Post No.77 Grand Army of the Republic and the Woman's Relief Corps No. 76 express heartfelt thanks to Fairbury and nearby citizens for patriotism and generous help in making May 30 a memorial day.
Mrs Della L Martin aged near 90 died at her daughter Mrs John Matthis home at 903 G Street after a lingering illness. Funeral held Wednesday at 2 30 from the home with Rev M E Gilbert, interment in Fairbury cemetery. She was born November 30 1847 in Hillsdale County Michigan and lived in Fairbury since. married Henry W Martin in 1873, he died in 1907. She leaves two daughters, Mrs John Matthis and Mrs F F Johnson, and two sisters, one in this city and another in Oklahoma. member of the Methodist church and the W R C.
Fairbury Workmen and D of H host a celebration night with entertainment and supper Friday. G M W Walling and Mrs Cleave of the C of H will attend. open to all members and spouses for the state Degree of Honor day event.
