City Sells Bonds for Light and Water Plant Upgrade
The city sold the remaining 39 099 water bonds to Investors Securities Co. through Bonham Bank with E R Bee key to settlement. Payments total 25000 down and 25 000 in two installments due March and April and two 10 000 payments in May and June. Bonds bear five percent interest with a 25 year term to fund plant overhaul, transformers, and worn lines. H R Marietta of Hebron bought Conrad and Hasse stock on the west square and will move to town next week, intending to expand stock and run a modern store.

Land sale in Jefferson county sets large sum record
I Bonham received what may be the largest sum for a single parcel in Jefferson county when he sold a 1000 acre ranch near Reynolds for 56000 dollars. Gustave Priefert of Reynolds bought the property. G A White and family spent last Wednesday with friends in Beatrice.

Swift & Company Poultry Plant Operations Highlight
A News reporter toured the Swift & Company plant led by manager B A Littlefield. The facility employs fifteen workers including fourteen poultry handlers and one grader. Last week the plant shipped 24 000 pounds of poultry with about 100 000 pounds for the month into city markets. Chicken pickers work about nine hours daily and can process between 200 and 225 chickens per person per day.

Fairbury Telephone Company denies planned rate hike
Mr Bartlett manager of the Fairbury Telephone Company said a circulating report that rates would rise after the new year is false and unfounded. He noted Nebraska railway commission regulates rates and no change can occur without its consent and subscribers would be notified well in advance.

Raymond Wright son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos Wright left Tuesday for Annapolis to enter the United States Naval Academy. He received the appointment last June through Congressman E H Hinshaw after delaying to finish school and chose Annapolis over West Point.

Simpson Wirthmill & Machine Co to Move for Larger Quarters
The Simpson Wirthmill & Machine Co. will occupy a new two story brick building west of the Markin Transfer barn on Fourth Street. Managers H S Simpson and C H Shaffer signed with Elmer Morlan for a 40 by 60 feet foundry room and a 30 by 40 feet wood department upstairs. If weather allows, occupancy is expected in sixty days to expand gasoline engine production. The Fairbury band and orchestra concert drew a packed house last Friday with a program of ten solos, four by the orchestra, four by the band, one by the girls tee club and one by the seventh grade. A large audience attended, with Ball’s Bohemian Girl as the top vote getter for the orchestra pieces and Humoresque No 9 as the popular band selection. Professor Zwickey’s work with the Fairbury band continues to win praise.

High Priced Oats Case Plea Before County Judge
Arthur Marshal and Will Cookson pled guilty to petty larceny in county court. Each was fined $100 and costs and ordered to restitution for a wagon load of oats stolen from John L. Wagoner south of Jansen. Oats traced via spilled grain led to their arrest by Sheriff Chirnside. Per the record, they had sold 76 bushels and 18 pounds for $19.90 to Allen & Davis.

Fairbury Ath Club Defeats State U Visitors 27 to 12
Wednesday evening the Fairbury athletic club hosted a pickup team from the state university at the old roller rink. The local team won 27 to 12 in a games night that drew a good crowd. A second game featured the high school's girls teams with the first squad prevailing.

Child Survives Pin In Throat After Surgical Removal
Frances 14 months old swallowed a safety pin last Tuesday and remained ill until Friday when doctors found and removed the open pin from her throat. The case followed two prior exams and a final operation decision. W H Jackson is confined to his bed this week with a bad grip.
