Members of the Philharmonic Society serenaded Signor Mario and Signori Grier, an honorary member. Mario was entertained at dinner at the Everett House by Max Strakosh with several well known professionals present. Charles OConor said he would never accept any nomination for office and avoids political questions.
The Hartford currently at Brooklyn Navy Yard will sail mid October to take over as flagship of the Asiatic squadron, replacing the Colorado which returns to the United States.
In Lafayette Square New Orleans a mass meeting endorsing the Greeley and Brown fusion ticket drew an estimated ten to twelve thousand attendees. The New Orleans Republican Liberal denied rumors of consolidation with the National Republican administration organ.
The Missouri State Republican Convention adopted the resolutions platform amid applause. Nominations followed for Supreme Court long and short terms, Governor Henderson by acclamation, Judge Ellis, Leonard, Closer, Shields, Chandler, and other state offices. A torchlight procession and speeches closed the day.
The Times editorial lauds the Louisville Democratic Convention for nominating Charles O Conor for president and John Quincy Adams for vice president. Trenton Sept 11 state prison officers arrested a man near Bordentown suspected of aiding the escape of George Edwards the bank robber. Authorities are exerting every effort for the recapture of Edwards.
A strong blaze last night in the Reed House Block gutted the property. Firefighters saved most stock and limited damage to Reed House to about 275000 with 80000 insured. Insurance will cover most of the loss.
The Florence broadcast reports a mob overpowered a county jail guard and hanged three prisoners near a tree after 100 shots were fired with no injuries. The trio included Thomas Clarke noted as the worst man in North Alabama, a killer of at least twenty men, with others accused of robberies in Pulaski, Athens, and Florence counties.

In Syracuse on September 5 the Democratic Convention heard the Liberal and Democratic Conference report, liberal delegates conceding all nominations except for Congress at large. A dispute over a packed conference and a new committee arose and the report was adopted. The electoral slate shows 1 Democrat and 13 Liberals. The body adjourned to noon, then to 2 PM.
Louisville September meeting reports Louisiana withdrawal from support for O Conor after his decline. Delegates vote 542 to 30 endorsing Chas O Conor for President and John Quincy Adams for Vice President. New platform opposes land grants to corporations and favors settler disposal.
Market telegram reports wheat firm at 117 to 131 cash with September 118 and 117 notes. Corn and meal show lower receipts and wide bid offers. Prices also listed for pork bacon sugar whisky and Porto Rico with mixed shifts and steady tones.
