Brooklyn May 13 Robert Hayes alleges a quarrel with his brother-in-law Bernard Marrin ended when Marrin struck him in the neck with a fist, breaking the neck and causing death. Marrin, a war veteran who lost an arm, was arrested.

May term Chancery Court docket closed with 120 appearances. City Council to decide this afternoon on a Short Line Railroad train in Covington.
The Newport Cincinnati bridge footways will be completed soon and the Newport water works reservoir should be finished by August 1. About thirteen hundred children attend Newport Catholic schools. A Chancery Court adjournment will be followed by a special session on June 25. Air Rutherford & Co. won the trench and pipe digging for Memphis Waterworks. Three new cars added to the Newport Cincinnati Street Railroad. A remonstrance circulates against Short Line Railroad entering Covington.
Emma Cameron’s funeral sermon was preached yesterday afternoon by Rev H P Walker of Covington and attracted a large attendance. The M E Church South has organized an appointment in Daxton and holds service in the schoolhouse with Rev Mr Southgate preaching every other Sabbath. It is feared Bishop Smith may not administer confirmation next Sabbath as planned. Arrangements had set him to address a Sabbath school elsewhere at the hour. the Dayton class must await the assistant bishop’s arrival.

Hamilton residents plan graves decoration for fallen war heroes with a Court House meeting held to organize. The United German Society eyes a grand picnic and prize turning exhibition on Prospect Hill July 4 1872 with anticipated crowd and amusement.
The Pall Mall Gazette reports Britain and the United States failing to reach an agreement on withdrawing indirect damages claims. Official exchanges are underway to draft a joint note for Geneva, seeking a three month adjournment to negotiate a fresh treaty. A lumber car ran off the track at the Marietta and Cincinnati line near Park Street crossing at noon. The impact forced the car into a locomotive of a departing freight train, smashing the lumber car and injuring the outgoing engine’s cylinder.
