Springfield March 28 Three prisoners in the county jail attacked the turnkey and choked him. A watchman fired a warning shot drawing a crowd of citizens. The prisoners surrendered and were placed in irons after the confrontation.
The New Albany Tribune ceased publication after 52 days due to reliance on Western Union AP dispatches. The owner, convinced no paper could exist without them, paid a $2,500 bonus plus weekly stipend for the privilege of publishing their news.
Seneca Falls N Y March 28 a large flouring mill on Water street owned by Curtiss Crobaugh was destroyed by fire at 1 o'clock this morning with its contents. The loss will reach about 15000 insured for about 8000. The cause of the fire is unknown.
JACEB ON VIL Jacksonville reports James Warey, a traveler, died yesterday morning from a fall down stairs at Fazzwell's boarding house. His residence is unknown. DESMOINES notes a large Republican State Convention with broad county representation, meeting at 11 AM and adjourned to this afternoon.
