In Dublin on July 9 a large Fenian funeral, over 4000 members from city associations attended a solemn procession to Glosneven Cemetery. The coffin bore military cap and Legion of Honor cross as speakers praised Carey's public and private life amid orderly rites. No authorities interrupted the ceremony.
In Rome on July 10 the Pope again seeks a return from Rome to Belgium. Italian Cardinals oppose the plan and may force the Pope to abandon the move.

Iohn A Sioux City report notes six regimental headquarter units of the 8th Infantry arrived in Sioux City at noon en route to Fort Rice Dakota to guard the surveying party of the Northern Pacific Railroad. General Stanley leads the escort of about 1 000 men with artillery expected to depart Fort Rice around the 26th and remain until October 31. A separate Rock Island telegram reports two drownings in the Mississippi near that city during swimming. In Des Moines, John A Kasson agrees to run for Congress against Palmer and work on the new capitol resumes today.
The Baltimore Democratic Convention opened with Mr Doolittle greeted by applause as he announced the credentials report. Delegates named for permanent organization and a seven member committee prepared an address to the Democracy while pledging loyalty to a Baltimore Convention platform.
Delegates crowded the Opera House as Doolittle called the convention to order and Dr Leyburn delivered a blessing. The Liberal Republicans visited in support but did not seek influence. The Cincinnati Platform was adopted and Greeley and Brown were nominated on the first ballot amid cheering.
The eleventh session began at 10 o'clock in the Supreme Court room with Wm. Saffin of Cincinnati presiding. About 100 delegates from local unions in 23 states and Canada attend. The President warns against active participation in the eight hour movement as the convention plans to run about eight days.
A derrick collapse at the new State Department construction killed two white men and one colored man, with several others badly wounded. A white visitor was crushed to a jelly. Coroner's inquest exonerated contractors. Also reported: Charles L. Cottrell suicide at Ebbett House. Commander W N Orr ordered to New York. Skinner gravely ill. Pope disputes imminent Indian War in southern Indian Territory.
The Cuban privateer Pioneer formerly the U S cutter Resolute was captured near Newport by the U S revenue cutter Moccasin. The vessel carried sixteen crew and three rifled cannons and briefly displayed the Cuban flag yesterday morning. Its captain had been in Newport claiming the craft waited for him.
Weather report notes increasing easterly winds and rain in New Jersey and nearby states, a disturbance southwest of Florence with rising barometer and clearing in the Northwest. Lower lakes see southerly winds and storms, barometer falling with increasing clouds.
A distilled admiral recalls a naval lad raised in the Episcopal church who earned twenty five bad marks after a classroom assignment to recite the second commandment. He explains he refused to repeat it to avoid seeming overly religious in front of his peers.
The Baltimore convention results show Horace Greeley named president with 686 votes to 44 for Bayard while 21 to Black and 2 to Groesbeck. Georgia gave 19 to Greeley and 1 blank. New York solid for Greeley. Bayard narrowly supported in New Jersey. Greeley’s nomination made unanimous on motion. Brown nominated for vice president with 713 votes. Brown’s unanimous nomination follows. The report also mentions Father Gavazzi speaking tonight and Rev. C L Thompson to be installed in Chicago, plus an injury update on Mr Shrover of Court Street.
At 7 o clock this evening Mr Adam B Wilson of 224 West Sixth street will lead Miss Mattie Beck daughter of Andrew Beck Esq to the Cathedral for the ceremony. The Archbishop will perform the rites and guests will be hosted by the bride’s father on Freeman Street. The couple will depart on the 9 45 train for an Eastern honeymoon.
The latest markets by telegraph show barley corn flour and oats prices with wholesale and retail bids. Whisky pork and lard demand remains firm while sugar cured hams and bacon stay steady. grain receipts and hog product exports reported along with currency and bond movements in New York.
A young woman named Crowell eight miles north attempted self harm by cutting her throat following a dispute with her father. She is believed unlikely to survive her injuries.

An assault case involving Michael Roth and Mary Badmer ended with Roth being discharged. A separate fire alarm at a building on Sixth Street east of Central Avenue reported around 4:30 yesterday caused minor damage and was quickly controlled with help from the distinquisher.
Inquest into the Browne street tragedy resumed in the coroner's office. Several boys who were with Shick when he was shot testified but added no new details. The jury concluded Frank Shick died from a gunshot wound caused by a gun in the hands of Samuel J. Browne.
Late markets show dull steady prices in Govern and flour futures across Orleans and New York exchanges. Grain and livestock quotes cited for oats corn wheat pork bacon and lard with several regional prices in pounds shillings and pence and notable receipts and stock levels.
