Chicago August 19 The Chicago Central Grant and Wilson Club fired a salute of 100 guns to honor North Carolina's victory. Powder bought a week earlier, not used until now. Board of Trade resolutions on illegal warehouse grain receipts approved unanimously and sent to Warehouse Commissioners for investigation.
Republican supporters in Richmond Minnesota celebrated victory in North Carolina on the night of the 8th with cannon fire and bonfires. Main street was crowded into the early hours while Liberal Republicans and Democrats met at Lyceum Hall with speaker W A Bickle and the Greeley Club marched to the hall amid hot weather.
The Board of Aldermen passed an ordinance to submit to voters the annexation of Cumminsville and nearby suburbs. Mayor Dirr is credited for persistent work on annexation. A fire at Mr. Coyle's shoe store caused about 100 dollars in stock loss, insured. The council ordered weed destruction in public places and Rev. J D E Mortimer will lead St Phillips church services tomorrow at four.
The disaffected Democrats meet at the Courthouse on Saturday August 17 1872 to nominate another ticket. Republicans organized a Grant and Wilson campaign club at the Court house last night with fair attendance. John W Sohn is considered a strong possible Republican congressional candidate. Peach markets offer fine fruit at 2 3/4 to 12 1/2 cents per bushel and John G Longfellow has early grapes on display.

This morning Elizbeth Kulen was committed to the Longview Asylum as she was deemed insane after a 2d Edition 2:30 O'clock report.
The report tells of Billy Southgate, a Covington youth, who under likely delirium tremens attacked two residents with an ax. John Platford lies dying, Rosa Duffy survives severe injuries, while Southgate is jailed on $10,000 bond. He claims self defense and cites water control fears.

No important claims acted on. Site for Mace O Baldwin fight in Virginia chosen but locality uncertain. Virginia authorities seek to prevent the encounter if possible.
