In Baltimore August 8, two passenger coaches of the Western Maryland railroad failing to stay on track after leaving Baltimore at 3 30 yesterday rolled off the line one and a half miles west of Finksburg. The two coaches were badly wrecked and five or six passengers were wounded.
The Liberal Republicans of Illinois 12th district met in Jacksonville and nominated Hon. Jos C Robison for Congress by acclamation with Hon Jos Epler withdrawing.

In Borrao on Monday night a saloon keeper savagely attacked Mrs. Butler and fatally wounded her. Her son tried to defend her and was severely stabbed. Mrs. Butler died yesterday.
In New Orleans on August 7 the Liberal convention met at 10 30 AM and, with the conference committee unable to report, adjourned until 10 30 AM tomorrow.
A St Petersburg dispatch reports a terrible fire at Nishrinos good where the world’s largest annual fair is underway. The fair began July 1 in a triangular space by the Volga. immense goods have burned and officials strive to halt the blaze though success remains uncertain.
Billy Manning reports in town. At 3:30 a small fire broke out in the roof of the L. C. L elevator on Smith Street below Third, likely from chimney sparks. Damage described as slight, mostly from improper water use.
The Butts Rieffe libel case ended this afternoon with no evidence tying Henry Rieffe to the disputed article. Marshal Clint Butts not proven the author or publisher. Wx. Johnson detained for grand larceny at Ninth-st Station after prior laundry thefts. Charles Avery held for family abuse at the same station.
In a police court report Amanda Logan was jailed for 30 days in the Workhouse after a drunken disturbance. Several youths received warnings or small fines for property damage and threats. Others include Fred Fuchs for fast driving, Jennie Clark and Lizzie Huson for drunkenness, and Louisa Reed a 16 year old discharged on vagrancy charges with her grandmothers taking her home.
