A large influx of delegates gathers in Cincinnati for the Liberal Convention amid party disputes. Editorials warn against machinations of worn out politicians while endorsing a reformist candidate. reports touch on health fears in Louisville and a murder case near Tell City.
Delegation from New York City representing the Workingmen's Association meets the President to press eight hour law enforcement for post office work and wages. The President agrees government employees are entitled to eight hours and full pay for eight hour work with extra pay for overtime where applicable. A note is given to a government official urging consideration of the complaints. Also a Kingston Jamaica cabl e dispatch confirms Greytown disaster with a full list of the affected expected.
Philadelphia delegates to Cincinnati will select 68 of their number to represent the state with four named leaders. Gov. Curtin not named for presidential nomination. A fire on Front Street destroyed the cotton dealers second floor after burning fish salting firm on the first floor. Loss about $12,000 insured for $6,500. A separate assault occurred as Alderman Crawford was attacked by Henry May at his stable.
In Chicago April 29 reports show two strong factions in the Cincinnati Convention with large delegations from both parties. Passes and expenses favors circulate for Brumbull and Davis, while newspapers back Davis or Trumbull variably. Detroit and Lake Michigan shipping activity rises as Japanese royal visitors arrive in Chicago for study and meetings.
The Times denounces the Tribune and questions a reform plan led by a chief judge. Dispatches from Cincinnati suggest Judge Davis remains a frontrunner for the Presidential nomination. Democratic papers largely repudiate claims that Adams is the party’s choice, favoring Davis instead.

In New Orleans on April 30 Col McComb of the Jackson and Great Northern railroad and managers of the Illinois Central road announced plans for an immediate construction of a line from Jackson Tennessee to Cairo with a bridge across the Ohio at Mound City. The route would connect New Orleans and Chicago, with engineers currently at work on the new route.
In Elora Ontario on April 30 a fire damaged a local distillery. The plant’s losses are estimated near 12 000 dollars with insurance covering about 9 000 dollars. No injuries are reported.
Frederick Watts, Commissioner of Agriculture, discusses the impact of barnyard manure on crops. He notes improper use can harm wheat and clover sod, urging careful plowing, manure application, and timing to protect yields. He references army worms and a village in Kansas with a local name.

A Sunday fire at Martin Shire’s stable in Trenton Butler County Ohio rapidly spread to John Kinsel’s stable Jacob and Frank Hinkle’s house and a carriage manufactory lumber shed and more. The Hinkle firm lost books stock and factory fully. insured for 1600 on the total loss. Firefighters and the United German Society were absent during the incident.

He warned of incongruous talent, called Davis Lincoln’s ally and Cameron rewarded with the War, and predicted the cigar man could win only if Republicans bolt. A state Liberal Republican gathering and delegate selections followed at Covington's Odd Fellows Hall while a three thousand dollar copyright fund for Silver Spray was noted.
