Bomb Shelter Chief and Seaplane Rescue Drama
Dr Albert J Stevens of New York and Dr Harry J Dooley of Chicago led a rescue mission after a seaplane crash thirty miles off the coast. Their fast boat reached the wreck, shelling forced the group to dive, and they fought a strong current toward land while German troops approached. Two of the rescuers were swept toward shore, with one drowning amid the perilous retreat.

Raid and Rescue At Sea In German Bombardment
Two men left adrift in rough seas were rescued by two officers after a sinking raid by Germans. The two sailors, exhausted, were pulled ashore and treated with blankets as a bombing base nearby confirmed the two men were saved. Explosions followed as a car convoy fled the base under fire. A question lingered over which soldier, Stevens or Dooley, avoided capture or death.

HUN SELLS SUPPLIES SEIZED IN FRANCE ORDER
Renewed evidence of German ruthlessness in occupied territories is shown in a captured army order from a section south of the Vesle river. It calls for forced labor of inhabitants for army needs with paper wages as low as 6 cents a day, ages listed, and mandatory payments in gold or silver for rations. Supplies were taken from the population and then resold.
