Plot to abduct Ford 2nd infant triggers ransom demand

Federal agents probe a kidnapping plot targeting Henry Ford the 2nd infant son of Edsell Ford. Lemper allegedly demanded ten thousand dollars for the baby's safety as an arrest unfolds at Sioux Falls. Also, federal court imposes one to two year sentences on twenty six German socialists for draft obstruction with fines up to one thousand dollars.

Prohibition Parade List Of Local Parade Participants

A list of business houses and groups to be represented in tomorrow morning's Prohibition parade at 10 o'clock includes retailers service firms clubs churches Scouts bands and the Carlsbad Current as organizer with 25 autos and Mr Warren's water wagons. Mrs Will Purdy will lead an entry for all old ladies and a car will be provided.

Positions of British Slightly Improved

By Associated Press London November 2 British forces have gained slightly improved positions south and west of Passchendaele and southwest of Poelcapelle. The Italian army remains intact after striking blows against the enemy and has thwarted the Austro German plan to encircle the third army on the Cargo river, preserving the Venetian plains and fueling hopes of a decisive enemy victory.

Hertling Accepts German Chancellorship

Berlin reports that Von Hertling telegraphed Ludwig of Bavaria confirming his acceptance of the German chancellorship. The message notes that the oath and notarized formalities occur at theCurrent office.

Russia seeks US aid as Kerensky warns of false war end

Petrograd reports Premier Kerensky says Russia is worn by war but not out. He urges urgent US aid in money and supplies and appeals for faith in the Russian revolution. In Washington the government authorizes a thirty one million dollar loan to Russia via the Federal Reserve Bank of New York this month.

German Sailors Rebel On Kronprinz. Officers Thrown Overboard

London dispatch reports German sailors aboard the battleship Kronprinzessin fitted Kiel in September revolted against submarine draft orders. Admiral Schmidt claims several officers were attacked and cast overboard during the mutiny, as the revolt escalated aboard the ship.

Russia May Quit War Warned by Officials

Washington November 2 Secretary Jansing said no official advice or Premier Kerensky statement suggested Russia would quit the war. Mutinous sailors on several ships tossed officers overboard leaving many dead, and Schleswig-Holstein mutineers were arrested after unrest in Kiel.
