Allied leaders express confidence in the American army to stem German offensives. French reserves remain largely intact and an immediate integration with Anglo French forces is not planned until the American force is complete and self sustaining. A British report notes no cabinet confirmation yet but satisfaction at American capabilities.
In Odessa sourced dispatches the former Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna and Grand Dukes Michiolawath and Alexandria Michaelavitch are said held by Germans at Dulbra near Aitodor in Crimea. Paris reports active artillery across the Avre in Picardy on both sides of the river.
Associated Press reports from London claim German prisoners are dead per Field Marshal Von Hindenburg. British officers’ letters on the west front are cited by the Daily Express, which elevates General Von Meckensen as the man who supposedly brings a German victory. The Express suggests the Von Hindenburg Mary is circulated to justify the failed offensive.
A Senate resolution, introduced by Thompson of Kansas, authorized an investigation into the production and supply of agricultural implements and the prices farmers must pay. In New York, stock gains continued as steel led with a two and a quarter point rise in early trading on favorable foreign and domestic news.
J. F. Gipson bookkeeper at the J. & F. B. ranch traveled to Roswell on Saturday to be present at the primary elections.
The Associated Press reports McAdoo ordered a reduction of transcontinental passenger service from Chicago starting in June. The change eliminates competition and trims running miles to about 7,728,000 annually. Meanwhile Lord Reading claims the American army will not be fully utilized on the western front until strength is built, contradicting British war cabinet expectations.
A May 13 Washington report lists ninety six names on the party roster. It notes Private Sol Schuster of Afton Wyoming died of an accident and Henry Y. Black from Montezuma Colorado was killed in action. Mrs White wife of the Corner Drug pharmacist returned from Roswell and Dorothy White was elected to a teaching post in Carlabad grammar schools.
Voters turnout in Eddy and nearby counties reached about 1600 with favorable weather. Delbert M. Jackson led all candidates with 1036 votes while county commissioner third district saw EB Tucker lead P. Pardue by about thirty votes. State representative race remains in doubt for second place with Carl B.A. Livingston near the top.
