Graft inquiry into aircraft production ordered by President

Washington May 6 The Department of Justice in the graft investigation of aircraft production charges by sculptor Quet son Borglum was ordered by the President. Borglum’s claims of pro-German influence will also be examined. A criminal investigation request was made in the Senate recently by Howard Coffin former chairman of the aircraft board, who said he sought to protect innocent men’s reputations.

London May 6 anti conscription speeches delivered by John Dillion new Nationalist leader and Professor Edward Devate Sinn in at Hallaghad Dillion warned if Ireland stays united for two weeks they could defeat the motion and called conscription an oppression.

NO PEACE OFFER SAYS BALFOUR

Foreign Secretary Balfour told the Commons that no peace offers had been made recently by the enemy. He said no neutral nation representative has made tentative or informal peace negotiation suggestions in this country.

LAS CRUCES BOY KILLED IN FRANCE

The casualty list includes Lieut Joseph Quisenberry of Las Cruces New Mexico who died of wounds and Private Staniford Hirris of Denver Colorado who was slightly wounded. In Carlsbad Mrs Leila Taylor died at 8 50 pm at her daughter's home aged fifty five. She was wife of W M Taylor of Frijole. Interment planned in Carlsbad cemetery after relatives contacted.

British Gain in Local Fighting Between Somme and Chere Rivers

British official report says a successful minor operation west of Marlancourt advanced our line on a substantial front. Enemy losses were heavy and about 150 prisoners, two machine guns, and trench mortars were captured near Locon and Lawe rivers improving our positions.

British troops retreat from Ezealt east of the Jordan in Palestine, with reports capturing nearly a thousand Germans and Turks and twenty nine machine guns. The Moon and Davis families completed a month long trip via Colorado Springs to Kansas, returning home amid muddy roads and rain.
