Picnic trip and town fire mark eventful afternoon
A youth picnic with Lupes and a flume excursion ended mid afternoon after a hot day with a pleasant report. The group included Ruth Pearse Omega Tinnin Helene Moritz May Johns Art Moritz Otto Matheson Lee Bloxom and Frank McCaulin all of Artesia. Nearby residents Hatfield Beeman of Malaga visited town and ate at Hotel Bates before a fire forced them to flee. The note also mentions War Saving Stamps and a local shipper offering produce for Sunday arrival. Jack Hooper reports. Local girls from a church bazaar class, led by Mildred Pate, sewed bags and handkerchiefs at Mrs. George Williams home and were served cookies and fruit punch.
