Jack Hines joins US Navy hospital corps after passing exam. Mrs KE Carter and baby plan ranch return. Dean travels to Uvalde then army service.
L. E. Callan of Carlabad after a preliminary exam at Roswell departed for El Paso to join the navy, expressing eagerness to enlist.
Fred Basax arrives in town from Hachita New Mexico and plans departure with the group of men on the 26th for Camp Cody.
Miss Ruth Hepler spent part of the week with Miss Lorene Powell and left this morning for her home at Loving. She is a 1918 graduate and a charming girl who is welcomed wherever she goes. Reclamation Jim Lopez is proud father of a boy born last night, the family’s first son after two daughters.

Mrs Wyman-Jenkins and other Eddy County club leaders travel by Arthur car stopping in Roswell and Vaughn before reaching Albuquerque Sunday night. They will attend the Mother-Daughter Congress where Mina Ida Tarbell and other notable figures will be present. The Arthur family will stay with Dwayne Stonter and promise a full report to the Current. A 1911 postal card mentions Prussian cavalry and a 1918 forecast, noted as potentially lifesaving to a Yank.
A county office in Lick sent a postcard depicting Prussian cavalry crossing a river near large manufacturies. The card, sent yesterday and delivered to a Carlabad resident in 1911, was part of a request for descriptive matter from Germany.
Mrs W J Barber hosted a W C T U gathering in Carlsbad on Thursday afternoon with seventeen members present despite heat. Punch and a two course luncheon were served by Mrs Barber's daughters Harber Nell and Annie Lee. Guests praised the hostesses and a memory of another such event was noted.
A summer gathering hosted by Mrs Barber and Mrs Allbright drew twenty attendees. The group included Ty, Maggie Reed, Kirkpatrick, Hamilton, L W Arthur, Wheeler, J H Jones, Alexander, Rackley, Deel, Purdy, e Cullom, Ralph, W J Barber, H Smith, Swicky ard, Singleton, Gorley, Courtney, Ellsworth and Williams along with Misses English and Ethelyn Ellsworth. Many guests were away for the season.
George Adams underwent an operation this morning at Sisters Sanitarium to relieve an acute attack of appendicitis.
A local baker named Connell announces bread made from wheat with coarse bran and without the core. He offers his own bread muffins and van cakes for trial and sale in town.
