Auction at Camp Westmore attracted multiple bidders but B C Smith of Orleans secured the personal property and camp equipment. Charles H Mudley of Hanover was expected to bid on the stocking run.
Lyndonville man Scott Darling rode a Ford down Dickerman Hill when a wheel rim came off and the car tumbled two or three times. Both occupants escaped injury and the Ford remained operable afterward. Air pilot reportedly landed near Des Moines with whiskey from Canada and sold it quickly. police noted the flight from Winnipeg but kept the hiding place undisclosed.
Extensive lumber work will start on Joe's Brook road west of East Barnet village and take three years to finish. Prentiss & Wild own the land, including Randall estate and Morse lot. Porter & Lang hold the cutting contract. a portable mill will cut timber into lumber for boxes and planking.
William Jennings Bryan denounces any American mandate over Armenia as impossible and harmful. He argues the United States should aid democracy by recognizing the Armenian republic without joining the League of Nations, warning against entangling alliances and wartime taxation burdens.
At the National Socialist Congress in Christiana May 25, delegates vote for a revolutionary programme to establish a Soviet based regime in Norway.
General Leonard Wood will attend the Republican state convention in Montpelier, escorted by Major H Nelson Jackson. Col J W Miller accompanies him as they travel from Burlington to Montpelier and on to Boston for a supporters' conference. The convention plans to urge Gov. Clement to call a special session for the suffrage amendment, with eight candidates to the Chicago convention likely unpledged. Names frequently mentioned include Jackson, Dunett, Proctor, Dewey, Thomas, Smith, Miles, and Gridley, with eight alternates to be chosen.
In a Senate investigation Walter W. Vick manager of Governor Edwards of New Jersey campaign denies liquor interests underwriting the bid. Testimony cites total receipts of 62 185 and contrasts Lowden and Wood campaign costs. Vick insists funds are small and underwrites not involved.
Officials in Washington on May 25 reported measures to lower cost of bathing wear for girls amid scarce supplies. The policy aims to guard against price gouging and precedent set by orders from Coo Island and Atlantic City. Police decline to comment on enforcement details.
