A nine year old boy Georges Cormier at Gabriel School was injured while playing with a spinning top. The top line caught by the string caused the top to rebound and strike him in the eye, resulting in partial sight loss in one eye. He attended Gabriel School.
A nine man party from St Johns bury Woodeville left for Detroit Monday to drive nine Dodge cars for C. H. Goss. They expect to reach St Johnsbury in about a week if roads are open Detroit to Springfield. If roads remain closed cars will be stored in Springfield until passage possible. Harold Jenks leads the group with Harry W. Randall Gerry W. Coburn George Wilkie C. Roy Calderwood M. P. Ford D L Wiggin and two others from Woodeville.
New England farmers and Canadian growers push toward forming a cooperative to buy the Plymouth Creamery from J. W. Jares. A St Johnsbury meeting on March 5 organized a stock drive and a plan to raise 800000 with a loan backed by milk checks. Trustees named include C E Woods Chandler Hallett W L Reed F P W Dodge Leland Wood and W B R Wilson.
Three youths Charles I Stevens aged unknown Kiason and Ralph Griffin 17 drowned in the Androscoggin River at Brunswick after a boat capsized while rescuing a man who had fallen overboard. Theam were quickly brought ashore but efforts could not save them.
Paris reports absolute confirmation that regular German army units entered the Ru district near the Allied occupation zone without Allied permission. The French foreign office says no excuse exists and expects the matter to be raised before the Supreme Council in London.
The Merrimac River in Haverhill Mass surged to a new seasonal high eight feet above high tide flooding the waterfront. Cellars of over twenty stores were inundated and heating plants went out of commission. River Street factories were temporarily crippled.
Police routed five burglars as they tried to steal sixty thousand dollars worth of silk from a bonded warehouse of the Public Storehouse Co in New York. Three men were arrested after pistol battles extending several blocks. Thirteen bales of silk had been loaded on a truck when officers arrived.
Tornado swept districts in the Middle West report 77 deaths, thousands homeless, and millions in damage. Chicago records the largest toll with 29 dead. Ohio lists 24, while Indiana notes 17 known fatalities. Further figures expected as rural areas are heard from.
