Death of William Higgins Ends Noted Vermont Farmer’s Life
William Higgins died Sunday evening after an illness of several weeks. Born May 28 1841 in St Johnsbury he lived on the family farm at Concord Avenue his entire life becoming a leading local farmer and financier. Survived by three children and four grandchildren the funeral will be held Wednesday at two o clock. He served 14 years on the town board was an early clerk and roll commissioner and long an officer and supporter of the Caledonia Fair Ground Company. Renowned for clear judgment and equity his life balanced business skill with community service and a serene patient outlook.

Dr Stone Finds Barton Baby Died of Exposure
State pathologist Dr B H Stone reports the Barton baby found at the foot of a Burton home embankment died from exposure and neglect after being born alive. Alice Stone of Sheffield, the mother, is detained in Newport jail awaiting a hearing next week when charges may be filed by States Attorney Thompson. Bond for Miss Stone was set at 1000 pounds but remains unsecured. Mrs Will Berwick and her son Irving of Sheffield visited the prisoner.
