Unsympathetic immigration officers halt a Newport elopement involving Miss May Coates aged 14 and Thomas McDonald 25 of BuP Q. They sought to marry locally and flee to the United States but were detained and later shipped back to their hometown after examination.
Fred Higgins of 92 Railroad Street was badly hurt Saturday afternoon when struck by a Ford on the St. Johnsbury Center road. The car, owned by J. McNam, was driven by Hiewins who was on a bicycle. Higgins was taken to St. Johnsbury Hospital for treatment.
The New England railroads start summer schedules with the Boston & Maine Connecticut Passumpsic division adding through service Sherbrooke to York.
