Acting Commissioner Proudfit of the U S Land Office designates lands as subject to entry under the enlarged homestead act of 1909. The lands span sections in TAN ROE THN TGN ROW TSN and TTN, across multiple townships, all located in Torrance County.
Susan Elvira Collins was born October 2, 1849 in Buchanan County Missouri and died June 9 1910 in Estancia New Mexico aged 60 years. She married Thomas S. Smith March 8 1868 and they had nine children, four of whom died earlier. She leaves husband and five children, was a Methodist Episcopal member over 80 years and lived a Christian life. She came to Estancia about two years ago from Newkirk Oklahoma. Funeral held this morning with interment in Estancia cemetery Rev B F Summers officiating. The News extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
Washington June 5 Senator Curtis of Kansas recalls early rural routes when carriers carried packages for country merchants to residents. He notes there were no formal arrangements, sometimes for accommodation or compensation, benefiting farmers and creditors. He supports parcels post for rural routes but opposes broader expansion now.

Silverton-Willard faced Hub City at Willard in a pitching duel that ended 1-1 after eight. In the ninth, Johnson homered and the umpire ruled a runner out for the catcher to touch. Silverton protested and the umpire forfeited the game to Willard 9 to 0.
G F Meek of near Moriarty visited Estancia on Tuesday and plans to stay.
