The narrative recalls the signing of independence as crowds gather at the State House amid shouting and bells. A boy bellman signals liberty with a ring as lanterns and bonfires honor independence, while a modern note records lodge membership and newly installed officers including Maggie E. Davis and Minnie Ross.
The local religious interest remains strong as Rev. W. A. Pratt organizes three Methodist societies. Mountainair hosts about twenty five members in the morning, Wille five miles away has fifteen, and Willard hosts fifteen in the afternoon and night.
The Church of Christ starts a protracted meeting in Estancia on Thursday night July 9 with Elder J N Armstrong of Las Vegas in charge of services and L K Harding leading the singing. The public is invited to attend.
Rain with hail drenched the eastern valley Monday afternoon soaking soil to depth. Hail damaged corrugated iron on a shed, and reports indicate some life damage in the area.
Socialists of the territory plan a July 4th meeting at Willard Hill to organize the Socialist of the Territory. Delegates from across the territory are expected as the committee secures the Sears building site for the gathering. A large Estoncia socialist delegation is anticipated to attend the convention.
The Estancia celebration plans a public Independence Day event with a license secured and a wedding ceremony noted. Merchants donate to defray costs as locals prepare sports and pageantry, including a Greased Pole contest, horse races, and prize money. The program features speakers, a reading, and community participation across the county in a communal Independence Day pageant.
Lon Atkinson a blacksmith at Corona wed Amelia Sultemeyer in Del Rio on the 2th. He left for El Paso but continued to the border town to marry, after visiting his parents Mr and Mrs M B Atkinson. The couple have many friends who wish them happiness.

The new Mourite mill near Mein is nearing completion with an 82.48 foot main structure. Lumber from sawmills is being used and carpenters are framing the building. Mr Soper, secretary of the company, spent days in the foothills assessing the wheat crop prospects for native farmers, reported as good. A native visitor arrived at McIntosh with wheat for conversion to flour, and the mill is expected to be ready to handle this year's crop.
A large new voter has moved to the home of John W. Collier in Estancia and another to Ed Brown’s home in the Tajique Draw about ten miles southwest, with the former arriving last Friday and the latter settling this Tuesday. All concerned are doing nicely.
Tuesday July 7 sets the day for fencing the cemetery grounds. Workers are urged to arrive early as wire and posts will be ready. Once the fence is in place no further improvements will occur until funds permit and then work will continue promptly.
La Voz Publica in Santa Rosa has been leased by Abran Maes and George Sena, with Sena handling layout. Sena, an interpreter for the Sixth Judicial Court, is well connected locally. The paper gains new type, better mechanicals, and stronger editorials, becoming a more gaudy publication.
In a heated Senate discussion, amendments to limit postmaster general payments for postal cars were voted down. Senator Gore argued rents should not exceed a third of car cost, citing international examples and discriminatory charges. He urged keeping mail transport fair, noting railroads already bear higher costs than express lines.
