The Las Vegas Las Pueblo weekly denounces praise for pension grants saying lawyers and claimants drive increases under mandatory law. It cites Mrs. Pelicitas Romero case as misrepresented by officials and asserts responsibility lies with attorneys who prepare declarations and witness testimony.
G. B. Bone of Moriarty passed through Estancia on return from Texas. His brother, working in a cotton mill, brushed loose cotton under a press and was crushed when the press dropped. He was thrown against a saw, losing arm muscles and sustaining head and facial injuries. Doctors saved the arm but it will remain useless. The accident was deemed a miracle to avoid fatality.
The territory appeals the Torrance County murder conviction of Jap L Clark for the April 4 1905 killing of James M Thase. Clark was sentenced to seven years and the appeal is scheduled for hearing next week in the territorial supreme court on the 17th.
Rev. D. B. Jackson, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Estancia, has bought two lots near the old Walker residence and will build a neat cottage thereon. He has been in Estancia a short time and is satisfied the town is good enough for him.
Mrs Emma Denaignan died Friday night after a short heart illness at her homestead about four miles from Moriarty. Her brother Harry Kelley believed she would recover, but she passed away. The family took the body to Harper Kansas, where a sister lives.

The county board approved deeds for a New Mexico Fuel & Iron Company site for the courthouse and moved to sell ten thousand dollars of Court House and Jail bonds and five thousand dollars Current Expense bonds for 1905. Bonds sold at par, funds to be available within thirty days. Routine business included a tied vote on county printing contracts with the matter laid over.
The Woodmen of America delay admitting New Mexico to the jurisdiction. A Rock Island committee rejected New Mexico along with several other states, citing partial admission for Arkansas and overall restrictions. Albuquerque and Roswell petitions push for favorable report, with delegates planning upcoming head camp votes.
William Frasier through Klock & Owen files in Bernalillo District Court for $600 in sheep allegedly stolen in Estancia valley in 1905. Defendant Nestor Savedra from Los Padillas is named. suit alleges some of Frasier's sheep mixed into Savedra's flocks via a theft committee led by Manuel Garcia, who was convicted and jailed. Frasier says he recovered some sheep but not all.
Women of Valley meet at the Valley Hotel parlor to organize a Library Social. The event will be at the M. E. Church on Thursday night January 16 with music speeches and donations of books and a late dictionary welcomed. The library will be open every night for free public use.
George Falconer returns from Santa Fe with his wife and an eight pound daughter born at Diaz Sanitarium. Mrs. Falconer and baby are reported well. Other births include a daughter to O. M. Bruffett and an eight and a half pound girl to G. B. Brown near Estancia.
L. F. Bainum suffered a hand injury at the Paup well drill. Surgeons initially feared multiple finger losses but have saved all except the little finger.
Mrs. W. H. Reaux is seriously ill with typhoid fever at her home near the summit of the Manzano mountains. Friends from the valley who enjoyed her hospitality during camping trips wish her a swift recovery.
A county report highlights good condition across several funds with nearly $10,000 credited to Estancia and related accounts. The three year period shows positive movement in credit balances and overall financial health.
Announcement states that the teachers examination on Thursday and Friday January 30 and 31 1908 may not be required for teachers holding certificates endorsed by the territorial superintendent Hon J E Clark unless endorsements expire before those dates. All teachers currently teaching under permits must take the examination as permits expire January 29. Torreon January 8 1908.

Notice announces a special meeting of the Estancia Public Service Company board to name the date for a stockholders meeting. It will be held at the County Court House in Estancia New Mexico on Tuesday January 21 1908 at 2 00 PM. Wm Gregg vice president and secretary signs the notice.
Mr and Mrs Hall of McIntosh visited Estancia with their young child for medical care after a pencil pierced the eye while playing. The eye swelled badly and surgeons could not probe for a broken lead until swelling and soreness subside.
Mesar, McDowell and Clampett of Arkins City Kansas and Mr Duncan of Newkirk Oklahoma arrived on last night’s train to locate in the valley.
