Valley records continued rainfall with 3.54 inches this month, including 1.21 inches Friday night and 1.37 inches Sunday, boosting soil moisture for summer growth. Absence of last year’s late frosts supports expected yields as farmers plow, seed, and conserve moisture for months ahead.
The Regents of the University met on Saturday April 18 with President F W Clancy and officials present. The faculty members re elected include Tight Hodgi Paraona Hickey Asplund Espinosa Angell Cram Sisler Richards Watson Clark. Three assistant professors remain to be selected for Mathematics Engineering and German. Several matters were discussed but most actions postponed.
Rev Antonio Bessett of Santa Fe will conduct services at Celestino Ortiz's house in Estancia next Sunday morning at 9 oclock. Everyone invited, Catholics urged to attend. Claud Fishes of Moriarty spent the past week in town and, while returning home this afternoon, missed the train and had to stay over.

Gland Nisbett’s home gained a bouncing infant Tuesday night, and Burt C Miller’s home received a nine pound son. All babies are thriving as families look to the future.

An American company will manufacture briquettes from peat near Mexico City. Deforestation has reduced timber supply, prompting exploration of peat as an alternative fuel. The venture involves significant land and machinery investment to convert bog fuel into usable briquettes.
Stonewell's Evergreen varieties and others may be grown for winter use or left to mature. Parched corn is a luxury for the poorest settlers. White Pearl and Queen's Golden popcorn perform well, providing meals with whipped cream. Potatoes, squashes, and pumpkins require fighting potato beetles and squash bugs from emergence to ripening, with labor heavy but aimed at home building and independence. Grasshoppers are curbed by poultry, and ingenuity replaces desert methods. the aim is to establish homes rather than wage labor.
The Indies of the Baptist church sponsor a six lecture series at the Baptist church by Prof. Chas. H. Bagley. He spent five years at sea touring the globe and will share personal experiences and observations. Relics and curios from wild peoples will be shown. First lecture Tuesday April 20 titled Wonders of the Coral Islands. Tickets via J. F. Tuttle Bakery. season adults $1, children 50 cents. Single lecture 20 cents. 10 cents for children under 14. Tickets available at church or on arrival. Proceeds aid the church organ fund.
A Sunday trip to Santa Fe drew heavy valley turnout despite rain. Santa Fe Central plans a repeat run on May 8 with same rate and later departure. Barelas Grays of Albuquerque and Salmon Grays of Santa Fe to face off, followed by winners’ game against valley team.
Circular requests county superintendents to enforce lawful school levies under 1907 laws. It outlines levy amounts up to five or fifteen mills, filing deadlines, voter qualifications, district boundaries, and assessor duties, urging prompt action to prevent loss of territorial levy funds.
Washington April 20 The house adopted Cannon's resolution to appoint a committee to investigate the paper trust and the wood pulp and print paper industry. The McCall bill for campaign contribution publicity was favorably reported to the elections committee. An attorney general Bona parte opinion leads to expectation the president will sign the new employers liability bill.
Unanimously adopted at a regular Estancia meeting on April 21 1908 the By-Laws name the Estancia Board of Trade set its objects membership officers standing committees initiation fee and assessments specify meetings quorum and amendments. The charter lists initial members and officers with terms of twelve months and election rules.
