George Labadie formerly of Raton and a Santa Fe railroad employee is now confined in a padded cell at the territorial penitentiary after becoming a raving maniac from disgrace. He stole a $75 railroad ticket following a loss of his horse and was sentenced to burglary. He will be moved to the Las Vegas insane asylum when space permits.

Aguilar Tried for Assault in Territorial Case

Yesterday in District Court the territory heard testimony in the case of Desiderio Aguilar charged with assault with intent to kill. Jose Martinez of Pinos Wells testified as principal witness about the 1900 incident at a neighbor’s house. Aguilar was indicted in 1901 but not served until now. trial expected to finish before noon.

Sheriff Schubert came back from Carrizozo where Lin coln county sheriff Charley Bell was arrested for stealing a horse and saddle from Zamora near Willard. Bell had a Monday preliminary hearing, pleaded guilty, and was held to the Grand Jury in 500 dollars. Bonds sent to Lin coln county. Bell expected friends to post them. Bell had been released from the penitentiary about three months earlier after a short term.
