Civic committee appointed to watch Lexington growth

At a League of Women Voters meeting in Lexington a Civic committee was formed to handle special local work. Members include Mrs W A Harman chairwoman Mrs E G Dreher Miss Mary Wingard Mrs Karl Oswald Mrs Frank Shealy Mrs T C Carlson Mrs Roberts Mrs H L Harmon Sligh and Mrs J. Ms The group will operate with league support but may act independently and will report monthly, with meetings scheduled for the last Thursday of each month starting December.

War Savings Stamps Cashing Arranged by Post Office

Postmaster Frank George says all holders of registered 1943 war savings stamps may present them at the post office now to receive the cash. He will process the redemptions and have funds ready to pay on January 1 for those who want cash. Those with government securities of this series are advised to see Mr. George at once.

Faries Ordered to Penitentiary After Murder Conviction

William C. Faries, convicted yesterday of murder in the September killing of Newton Taylor, 13, faces execution by electric chair on December 29. He is expected to be moved to the state penitentiary in Columbia tomorrow, though deputy clerk Howard McMackin said no commitment papers have yet been issued.
