The Caughman family and historic homes in Lexington
Last week in the Dr Caughman home section of Lexington shows the old dwelling and its improvements. The piece recalls Quintcy E Caughman, nephew of Dr Isaiah Caughman, and notes his service on Lexington route five. It details neighbors Leroy Hendrix and Jesse Taylor families, the Meetze Caughman partnership, and local merchants. Also recalls past saloon activity, racey anecdotes, and a shift toward sanitation leadership in the South with New Orleans ending yellow fever importation through strict public health measures.

Federal Land Bank Limits Loan Allocations for Urgent Needs
The Federal Land Bank will now accept only a limited number of loan applications each quarter. Farmers within the Saxe-Gotha National Farm Loan Association should apply immediately if funds are needed within ninety days. Those not needing funds soon should defer applications to the next quarterly allotment to conserve money until needed, as loans will be made only to urgent cases. The bank restricts loans to those farming their own land, with family or labor, who can provide at least half of the crop value as part of eligibility.
