Lexington County Democratic convention meets in court house
The Lexington County Democratic convention met in the courthouse Monday, reporting a smooth session with hundreds in attendance and few absent. Officials praised the harmony and discussed reforms to primary rules while listing delegates and officers, with Miss Caroline Guignard added as a vice chair and F Hamp Hendrix elected treasurer. Court Dismisses Gappins' Appeal
The supreme court dismissed the appeal of Jesse Gappins, a member of the Brazell murder trio, for lack of merit after Solicitor Callison urged dismissal in open court. Chief Justice Gary condemned apparent trifling with the courts and noted Rule 30 allows dismissal for meritless appeals and warned lawyers of possible disbarment for abuse of process. The remittitur will be sent to Lexington to set a new day for carrying out the lower court death sentence. related appeals by S. J. Kirby and C. J. Fox may be dismissed at Lexington May term.

Boy Scouts Trip To Barre Pond Ends In Joyous Fray

Sheriff Roof Takes Prisoner From Carlisle for Killing Dispute
Sheriff E. Austin Roof located Kenny Humphries in Carlisle Pennsylvania, a negro, who killed Will Green in Batesburg on May 11 1920 over a dime in a clan game. Humphries fled and was captured last week. Roof plans to return with the prisoner within days for trial at the May term of court.

Court Convenes in Lexington May Times for Murder Trials

Batesburg Builds New School for Colored Citizens Dedicated
In Batesburg a new $6,000 two story school building for the colored community was dedicated with a program including remarks by Dr. E. C. Ridgell and Prof. W. F. Scott. State Superintendent John E. Swearingen spoke and praised the project. Attendees included W. H. Felton of Columbia and local officials. The building measures 50 by 83 feet. The ceremony emphasized pride in the new facility.

Death of Samuel F Oswald at Gilbert home
Samuel F Oswald died at his Gilbert area home last Saturday at age 67. Born March 26 1855 he married Louise Devorgan Price in 1880 and had eight children. Survived by his wife and four sons Lonnie, Clinton, H Cromer and Broaddust. two sons and both daughters predeceased him. Funeral at Hollow Creek St Pauls with Rev Wise and Rev Stoudemire, burial in Price burying ground near the church.

Lexington men to be resentenced at May term
T. C. Callison stated this morning that C. Kirby and J. O. Fox have not finished their appeals to the supreme court, leaving no jurisdiction in their cases. Gappins is also expected to be brought to Lexington for resentencing at the upcoming term. The three men were convicted of murder for killing William Brazell at the last Lexington criminal court term.
