South Carolina cotton pool plan gains wide support
Farmers across South Carolina push signatures for cooperative marketing contracts to sell a 400,000 bale cotton crop by May 1 1922. Banks and business leaders back the plan as a path to prosperity, with Sumter bankers rallying support and state chambers endorsing the initiative. The program features long term legally binding contracts, a 100 percent compulsory pool, and non profit grower membership, mirroring successful cooperatives in other states.
