Mormons Blaze Trail to Zion Across Nebraska in 1847
Pioneers led by Brigham Young crossed Nebraska in 1847 from Winter Quarters to the Great Salt Lake valley. The first emigration included 1,553 people in 666 wagons, with oxen, horses, cattle and hand carts. Hardships included scarce feed, broken carts, sickness, and deaths, offset by a rescue party from Salt Lake City.
