Local items include sale of 100 racks of dry stove wood from J. W. Fouts and a ball bearing sewing machine for 16 dollars at J. O. Blanger’s. Ex cavating begins for a furniture and hardware store addition by J. L. Henrichs. A. T. Watson reports selling 76 state fair tickets to Lincoln via Burlington this week.
The Presbyterian Church announces Sunday school and morning service at usual hours with a sermon titled Going Forward. A young people's prayer meeting is at 7 pm and a union meeting at the Christian church at 8 pm. A German service is at 3 pm with Holy Communion following the sermon. all German Protestants are welcome. F. G. Knaver, Minister.
Mrs Ora A Stephens of Port Williams Ohio shares a testimonial praising Dr Kings New Discovery for coughs and lung troubles from a two year ailment. Earl Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Miller, was kicked in the face by a young horse at the Kaden barn while Max Kaden was away. The incident, witnessed by the Kaden adopted son, drew neighbors including J. W. Hayworth, a physician treated Miller, who remained unconscious for about two hours and faces several days of recovery.
Local residents and visitors from Diller and vicinity traveled to Lincoln this week for the state fair and a reception for W. J. Bryan, with many names listed among attendees. Other notes mention Druggist H. C. Stokes buying holiday goods and S. Hl. Diller visiting Fairbury, plus a comic anecdote about Scott the local telephone man making a sixteen mile trip to retrieve a pair of spectacles that disrupted the line.
Clinton Tristman stood in for C A Reinhart on rural route No 3 while Reinhart attended the state fair at Lincoln. The Atchison Globe notes it is best to pass peaches to guests on the front porch so the worm’s death remains unseen by the man who eats it.
