District office of Price Administration announces Oct 20 to 22 registration for War Ration Book IV in schoolhouses statewide under county and city superintendents. Adults and families with War Ration Book III must apply. those missing registration must wait for future rationing boards.
Salvage director Dr. Fanders says a definite date is pending as plans unfold for the third scrap metal drive. County and local scrap chairs urge residents to gather old metal for farm tools and military production to boost 1944 output and preserve war supplies. more details to follow next week.
A fire of undetermined origin destroyed the Clyde Thober farm home located two and a half miles southeast of Ellis Saturday night just before midnight. Neighbors could not save the furnishings as the home and contents burned completely. The Thobers, who rebuilt the house about a year ago, were in Beatrice at the Passion play when the fire occurred. Estimated loss is $4,000 to $5,000, partly insured.

Technical Corporal Dale Close spent a week visiting relatives and friends and returned Wednesday evening to his camp at Barkley Texas.
Lloyd R. Lamb, sworn into the army last week at Fort Crook, enjoys a pre induction furlough at his parents home Ray and Mrs Lamb. He plans to depart for Fort Leavenworth late this month for further training.
