First Freeze Strikes Area Hits Late Garden Crops Hard
The first freeze of the season hit Sunday night killing late garden produce such as tomatoes beans sweet potatoes and other crops but spared corn which had matured enough to avoid frost damage. A second freeze Monday night completed damage to any remaining survivors.

Large owl electrocuted by wires near Steele City cemetery
A 4 ft 6 in owl became entangled in electric lines just south of Steele City cemetery and short circuited the current. The outage affected Steele City Diller Odell and Lanham until around noon the following day when the bird was found.
