Leading agricultural colleges report distiller's dried grains from alcohol production provide high protein and vitamin by products worth 1.7 bushels of grain in feed. From each bushel processed, 17 to 18 pounds of nutritious feed are recovered. Substituting distiller's grain lowers costs and increases turkey and chicken growth compared with standard rations.

Pioneering Pigeon Post Opens New Zealand Air Mail Route
In 1897 the Great Barrier Pigeongram Service began a regular air mail route between Auckland and Great Barrier Island. Within months New Zealand authorized stamp use for pigeon mail and by 1899 the service extended to Marlborough and Hen and Chicken Islands. A rival Great Barrier Pigeongram Agency later joined, with both carriers operating until the cable arrived in 1908. Messages were written on tissue paper folded to seal with the stamp.
