The Red Cross flag at the Record office signals that Red Cross membership cards are available there. The drive runs until Thanksgiving with a quota of forty at Diller. The membership roll will be published next week, with Mrs. R. W. Green and Mrs. L. M. Cavett on the committee.
Simms Floral Company of Fairbury showcased cut flowers last Friday to Sunday with chrysanthemums in many sizes and colors, along with roses carnations and snapdragons. California eucalyptus branches formed a striking background for orchids and gardenias. Each visiting lady received a rose, and over 4000 roses were handed out by 5 30 Sunday evening.
Mr and Mrs Max Bell and a neighbor boy traveled from Kansas City to visit H A Bell and attend the Pitt Nebraska game in Lincoln. Max bet heavily on Nebraska but the outcome ended Pitt 19 Nebraska 6.

Mrs. Raleigh Bell known as Betty Spear of Lincoln underwent emergency appendectomy last Thursday evening at 8 30 at St Elizabeth hospital in Lincoln. Her father F L Spear reports she is progressing well and on a speedy recovery.

The famed soprano Mme Schumann-Heink died at her Hollywood home at about age 45. Reports indicate she had sons serving in the U S Army German Army and other forces. Her father was a Romanian army officer and her mother a German citizen who later naturalized in the United States.
