Tomorrow is Armistice Day. Night School tonight at the school house. Three men were laid off the section last week but we hope not for all winter. Miss Nellie Green of Lincoln was visiting relatives and friends. Mr and Mrs Charlie Hilder and daughter Francis made a business trip to Lincoln Wednesday.
Alvin Smith of Jansen now owns and operates amateur radio station W9PEX after receiving the license on October 27. Patton moved Tuesday from the M. E. parsonage into Chas. Brandt’s former home behind the school.
John Garton of Diller won the annual corn husking contest at Steele City last week with a total of 17.96 bushels after deductions. Guests included Mr and Mrs John Werts and son George of Fairbury and Mrs Freidhs at the Taddikens' home hosted by Phillip and Mrs Taddiken.
Nebraska University football has won all games this season and would clinch the Big championship by beating Kansas tomorrow. The Huskers aim to repeat as conference champions for a second consecutive year.
Mr and Mrs Alvin Hirsch and family of Fairbury visited Mrs Hirschs sister Mrs L M Hurst and family and her grandfather Frank T Pearce Wednesday at the editors home in Diller.
Moffat and Sunflower described as the two largest selling coals, perfectly prepared and sold by Cornbelt Lumber Co to Nebraska. Phone 153.02 given, indicating pricing or contact.
Nebraska relief funds allocated to counties include Jefferson County with a total allotment of 8 000 dollars for November aid. Some of the money from Jefferson’s share has already reached unemployed residents in Diller as part of the distribution.
Miss Gene Andrews and Cleo Green attended the Girl Reserve District convention in Fairbury over the weekend and joined a banquet at the First Presbyterian church with many Jefferson and Gage county reserves. They visited the W. D. H. Van Marter home while in town and reported a fine time.

Mr and Mrs Robert Williams visited briefly at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs John Carico and left Sunday for their home in Sioux Falls South Dakota.
The Diller Volunteer Fire Dept changes meeting to the third Tuesday each month. The next regular gathering is Nov 21 and all members are asked to attend for important business.
Miss Evelyn Erway of Omaha daughter of Mr and Mrs RM Erway Mead Nebr wed Robert C Wheeler son of Judge and Mrs Perry M Wheeler at the baker memorial church in Omaha Saturday evening Rev Robert L Wheeler grandfather of the groom assisted by Rev L C Bille. Following the ceremony guests gathered at the tea room for a reception.
The J. N. C. met at the home of Joe Hiatt on Wednesday November 8 with all members present. A con was won by Mrs Anos Hu. Beverly June Carrier and Mildred were honored as guests. Ruth Anna Hiatt carried a decorated wagon of presents for the bride. Mrs Hiatt served luncheon. guests from Odell and Diller attended.
Miss Maxine Nelson daughter of Mr and Mrs E F Nelson married Robert B Drew of Lowell Mass Wednesday afternoon at four in the Methodist Episcopal church officiated by Dr Travie and Dr McCaskill. The ceremony featured Ruth portions and a ring rite with ferns, white chrysanthemums, and ivory tapers.
The Congregation al church women plan a supper in the annex on Saturday November 11 at the church.
Mr and Mrs H A Beilen enjoyed a gathering in Lincoln last Saturday with their sons Raleigh and Benford and their families.
V A Raymond of Lincoln visited his mother Mrs. Isabella Raymond and family for a weekend gathering, staying Saturday night and Sunday.
Mrs. Carrie Green and her sons Ray and Rex, and J. H. Emerson attended the funeral of Mrs. Adeline Hadley of Belleville Kansas. Mrs. Hadley, aunt of Mrs. Green, was 91 years old and an early settler. She and her husband drove from Iowa sixty two years ago with an ox team.

Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Walburn, elderly residents north of Endicott, were injured when a train frightened a horse team on the highway two miles southwest of Endicott near Alice Kyker’s farm. The cart struck a telephone pole, throwing the couple. Mrs. Walburn suffered fractures in both bones of the left leg near the ankle and a small foot bone fracture. she was treated at Lynch hospital in Fairbury and taken home to recover. Mr. Walburn was severely injured and remained hospitalized and under care.
A passenger on a runaway train was moved to Fairbury for a detailed examination after a Tuesday accident. The man sustained a broken jaw, crushed chest, several fractured ribs, and internal injuries as the train crew halted the train and provided aid.
