Cavett and Viers Visit Geneva. Cavett Stays for Treatment

Editor Cavett III, Dr. S B Viers and L M Cavett drove to Geneva last Tuesday afternoon. Dr Viers returned to Diller that evening. Mr Cavett, after weeks of nervous trouble, will remain in Geneva for medical treatment. Friends hope for rapid recovery and his return to work. Mrs Griswold stays with Mrs Cavett during the absence.

Diller Woman's Club Presents Mrs Gore Review

On Wednesday November 15 at 2 30 the Diller Woman's Club hosts Mrs Gore of Beatrice for a Broadway play review The American Way plus musical numbers in the Methodist Church A 10 cent tea after the event will fund juvenile books for the public library Your attendance supports the library program and promises an enjoyable profitable afternoon.

Bardwell Funeral Held After Long Illness Near Liberty

Bessie C Bardwell died at her home 34 miles east of Liberty Nebraska after a long illness on Friday. Funeral services were at the Christian church in Liberty with Rev Blackboro officiating. The body was taken to Sidney Iowa for burial. Survived by husband Bardwell two sons and two daughters. The Bardwell family formerly lived near Diller.

Mr and Mrs Alva Earhart, their two daughters, Mr and Mrs Edw Zweifel of Hohen berg, and Dale Earhart of North Carolina visited old schoolmates in Diller Sunday with Mr and Mrs H H Beckwith.

Mrs Christie Seaman Visits Lincoln and Omaha Relatives

Mrs Christie Seaman accompanies Mr and Mrs Will Tristman to Lincoln Tuesday afternoon. She will stay with Mr and Mrs Joe Blair briefly then visit her son True Thompson and other relatives in Omaha. She plans to be away about two weeks.

Nebraska Thanksgiving Day Set For November 30

Lincoln Nebraska officials report confusion over the governor’s Thanksgiving proclamation. While Cochran previously said the holiday would follow the usual last Thursday a proclamation designating November 30 may be issued within a week or ten days. The governor also indicated 1940 plans to align Thanksgiving with the presidential election choice.

Mr and Mrs Hugh Garrett of Diller were surprised Sunday as friends gathered to mark their 24th wedding anniversary which occurred on Thursday. Guests included Eva and Larrayne Garrett, Mrs Gilbert Garrett, Mr and Mrs John Fakers and children, Joe James and son Loren, Earl Weaver and Eilen Garrett, and Garret Saathoff with Mildred, from nearby towns.

Girl Swallows Pin During Halloween Fun at Salem High

Phyllis Wickmann 18 returns to class at Salem high after swallowing a common pin while laughing at a joke Tuesday night during Halloween costume work. Doctors tracked the pin with fluoroscope as it moved from stomach to intestine and it passed Thursday noon without surgery.

Diller High School basketball doubleheader results

The Diller High School basketball team hosted a Hollenberg squad doubleheader on the local court on Wednesday evening November 8. The first squad won 18 to 11 while the second suffered a 143 to 11 defeat. The first squad wore new black and orange uniforms. The next game is scheduled for December 16.

Death of Brick Contractor R W McHale in Fairbury

The Fairbury papers announced the death of 88 year old R W McHale a brick building contractor who died October 29 at his Fairbury home. He supervised the Miller building now occupied by Box's Cafe.

The Diller Woman's Club gathered at City Hall at 2:00 P M with Current Events on the agenda. Guest speaker Mrs A E Mead Nebraska Federation of Women's Clubs official spoke on International Relations. The Girl's Sextet performed Pale Moon and Alice Bue Gown with Miss Bull at piano. Guests included Diller High School and seventh and eighth graders. Next meeting November 15 at 2:00 P M at the Methodist church features a book review by Mrs George Gore. All are invited to support the library fundraiser.

Convention Speakers Attend Thayer County Event

Mrs Clarence Steffen Mrs Scott Miller and Mrs C B Calloway from Fairbury attended the Thayer county convention of the Nebraska Federation of Women's Clubs at Hubbell on Tuesday October 31. Mrs Miller president of the Fourth District gave a 30 minute address and conducted a parliamentary law class. She also spoke at the Gage County Odell convention on October 25 and at the Jefferson County Fairbury event on October 26. She canceled engagements for York and Polk counties scheduled for November 1 and 2.

Local children star in Bonham Theatre film project

In Fairbury three to twelve year olds took part in a Melton Barker production shot at the Bonham Theatre. About 70 youngsters auditioned, with two rehearsals and a full day of on location filming from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event showcased singing and dancing numbers and a small speaking role for Mary.

Mr and Mrs Will Tinstman their son Arlie and his friend Flora Bellam all of Sheldon Wisconsin left Diller Tuesday afternoon on the first leg of their return journey to their home They planned to stop at Lincoln to visit Mrs Elizabeth Tinstman and overnight at Conradion with Mr and Mrs Lam F During their Nebraska trip the party has visited Crete and Humboldt relatives as well as Diller friends Mrs Tinstman s father John Lamb and sister Mrs Rex Green reside here.
