Ice Plant Fire Threatens Big Omaha Meat Plant Loss

A fire destroyed the old Omaha Packing Company ice plant at Thirty third and Q streets in South Omaha Friday night. It consumed 2,000,000 pounds of meat and damaged 2,300,000 pounds of pork and 800,000 pounds of beef stored there. The adjoining Cudahy plant was seriously threatened while Omaha firemen fought the blaze. The cause was not yet determined and the fire's origin was traced to the smoke house.

Ainsworth Nebraska six miles northwest suffered a heavy fire at the Grams home on Monday afternoon. Two barns, five horses, three calves, hogs, 100 tons of hay, and farming implements were destroyed. Anton Bily, residing on a farm about nine miles southeast of Table Rock Nebraska and ten miles from Bu Bois, shot his wife about seven oclock Tuesday and then killed himself.
