The Beatrice area reports five inches of rain since Thursday, boosting prospects for a wheat and oat crop. Local notices include a time card update for Burlington, a consolidation meeting for Ellis schools with state officials, and various community notices from Mrs. Zook and Miss Summers to Rev. Davis’s illness.

A group of Miss Olive Ballard’s friends staged a surprise fifty fifth birthday last Monday evening. She was lured from her millinery shop to her home where guests presented tokens including a rug a gold band berry set a picture frame a tea set and a gold watch. After refreshments the guests departed wishing many happy birthdays.
A village committee report finds the Tobias water works system satisfactory and recommends installing a similar system in Diller. A meeting with Mr. Cole of the National Company favored starting connections and using city water. A follow up report will appear next week and local boosters will keep the issue before residents for an intelligent vote. Also notes local ads and items from Neely's Pharmacy and town happenings.
Geo Myers raised his residence about sixteen inches and added cement blocks underneath to improve its display and value.
The Record reminds parents living outside the Diller school district that applications for high school privileges must be filed with the county superintendent before the second Monday in June. A new yearly application is required and can be submitted now. Each child must present a certificate from the county superintendent indicating the desired grade level from ninth to twelfth.
