Mr. and Mrs. C E Warthen of Washington Kansas visited here Sunday with his mother and sister. John Walters, working in Missouri, spent several days last week at his parents home Mr and Mrs Carl Walters.
Local Lumber ad from Corn Belt Lumber Co. of Diller Nebraska urges homes to repair roofs before spring rains. It highlights availability of quality roofing material and emphasizes preventing plaster and paper damage.
J H Saathoff invites buyers to view three kinds of chicken coops now offered at a discount. Mr and Mrs H H Green and children plan a trip to McDonald Kansas to visit Mrs Green’s parents.
Mr and Mrs G L Richardson and daughter Eleanor hosted a Sunday dinner with guests from Bruning and Lincoln. The N R C Club gathered May 11 at Mrs Arthur Wieths with eight members and one child present. Miss Myrtle Shull of Lincoln attended. After a brief meeting the ladies worked on quilt blocks and enjoyed a luncheon. The next meeting is planned for May 25 at Mrs Frank Grone’s home.
The Diller Woman's Club will close its year with a Mother and Daughter banquet in the Christian church on Friday evening May 27 at 7 o'clock. Tickets are limited and available from Mrs Nt Frisbie or committee members Bert Bell and Man A Double at seventy five cents.
Mr and Mrs Andelt Sr and Mr and Mrs Kmiadeie Sr of Dorchester visited the home of the latter’s parents Mr and Mrs S J Thompson on Sunday.
Mrs. Carrie Green and her daughter Bonnie returned home Sunday after visiting relatives in Lincoln while Mrs. Green attended the Grand Chapter of the O E S.
Mr and Mrs J C Turner and daughters and her mother Mrs Jane Bodley of Lipenville spent weekend with sister and husband Hiram Packer and family. Decoration Day will be observed in ten days with a meeting to discuss exercises, arrange a speaker, and handle other business.
Prof. L. H. Siekman and Prof. Ben Yost, then superintendent and principal, visited Saturday in search of residences. Siekman secured Mrs. Frerich's Hilton street home and Yost took Mrs. Warthen's Lavelle street residence. The piece praises high school graduates as central to the community and offers congratulations.
Rodgers posted and distributed a large amount of advertising matter promoting the Chau Tauqua to be held here June 4 to 8. The notices boast a fine array of talent for Diller's vacation week.
In Elba Colorado blizzard effects are minor with crop losses noted to cherries plums and berries but wheat and spring crops show promise. August Engelman hires L M Cavett to build a new bungalow residence 24 miles north of Diller replacing Emil Krebs lived in the tornado wrecked house of April 28. Construction uses Cornbelt Lumber Company supplies from Diller for house and farm buildings.
Mrs. Addie Tinstman visits her son Clinton Tinstman at his home. Mrs. A O Richardson underwent surgery Wednesday at Lutheran Hospital in Beatrice using a local anesthetic and is hoped to recover well.
Mr and Mrs E L Dougherty of Bruning Nebraska visited Saturday at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs Arthur Grone and other Diller relatives. Mr Dougherty returned Sunday and came back Tuesday with his parents Mr and Mrs G M Dougherty.
At Friday night meeting the community approved the 31st annual August picnic to be held at Diller as usual. Officers were elected and Ss. C. Titan will call another meeting in due time.
Rev L S Jeffery delivered a baccalaureate sermon at the closing of the Diller schools held Sunday evening at the opera house. A large audience attended with the graduating classes eighth grade and seniors occupying reserved seats. Music came from a Federated and Methodist union choir. a quartet included Mrs Willis Clark Mrs R W Green Mrs Clint Tristman and Mrs Frank Cully. a solo was sung by Mrs L S Jeffery.
The Standard Oil Co. is installing a third large tank in its yard at this place to handle a new brand of high grade gasoline.
Last Friday evening’s Junior-Senior banquet featured scarlet and black colors and a six course menu prepared by the junior mothers and served by sophomore girls. The program followed the published Record schedule.
The Southland Jubilee singers from radio station KMA Shenandoah Iowa performed Tuesday evening before a large crowd at the Diller opera house. The program included Jim Whitt the Rocky Mountain poet who recited original pieces. A nearby thunderstorm near the end caused some nervousness and interrupted the closing moments.
