Corn Planting Delayed by Storm In Diller

J Hiatt and Lewis Saffel planted corn last week while Wm. Riddle returns home relieved of rheumatism. Extra copies of the Double Easter Number of the DiLer Recorp are sold for 5c. Mrs. W. A. Hull visits from Lincoln to see relatives. The Diller Telephone Co. purchases J. L. Lamb’s pump shop for 650 to use as a wareroom. Local photographer Mr. Hare visits weekly for pictures. Coal from Trenton Illinois Missouri and Pennsylvania is available. Shawnee Fire Insurance Co. Topeka Kan agents promote property insurance for S. C. Hurcaixson. Mrs. Mary Emerson and son James travel to Lincoln to see daughter Mrs. C. C. Wright.

Only Mennonite sits in Nebraska’s legislature

John P. Thiessen of Jefferson county is described as the sole Mennonite in Nebraska’s legislature, a farmer and banker from Jansen who supported reform measures. The piece notes Mennonites historical war objections, migration from Russia and Germany, and Thiessen’s late citizenship, with colonies in Jefferson and Gage counties and land investments near Jansen.

William J. McGowan Civil War veteran dies in Nebraska

William J. McGowan born April 4 1844 Logansport Indiana died April 24 1907 at his home near Diller Nebraska from heart paralysis. He served in the 23rd Illinois Infantry during the Civil War and later lived in Indiana Illinois Missouri and Nebraska. He leaves two children Gideon and Jessie sister and other relatives. Funeral conducted from his home at 10 o clock last Saturday Rev Westervelt officiating with interment in Prairie Home cemetery.

Church Interns Invitation to May 5 Services

A cordial invitation invites all to attend next Sunday May 5 services at the church. The pastor will preach morning and evening. Sunday school at 10, preaching at 11 and 8. Epworth League devotional at 7 with the topic Coupting the Cost Luke 14 25 83. Weekly prayer meetings focus on Sunday School lessons, with a Wednesday May 8 prayer meeting at 8 in the Christian church. Kensington ladies meet at Mrs Fred Clarks next Thursday afternoon. Miller Death at Dillsburg After Brief Illness

David Griest Miller aged 80 years 11 months 24 days died at the home of his son in law A W Bistline Dillsburg after a week long illness. Survived by wife Sarah Miller four sons P B D G John Miller of Nebraska George of York Springs six daughters and many grandchildren. Funeral held Tuesday with two ministers officiating and Sunnyside cemetery interment. Also note State Fair contract for airship flights by Charles J Strobel of Toledo to perform at Lincoln fair grounds September 2 to 6 after tours at St Louis Portland and Jamestown expositions.

Prairie Gem and Vicinity Show Attendance and Weather Notes
