Lincoln man J H Patton dies at 69 in 1948

J H Patton former Diller resident passes away at his Lincoln home on February 14 1948 at age sixty nine years four months. He farmed near Diller later moved to Lincoln in 1934 worked as a carpenter contractor and earlier livery and auto trades. Survived by wife Frieda daughters Helen Pierson Edith Drake Maxine Beals four sons Lester Leonard Gordon Hubert four brothers two sisters and eight grandchildren. Phyllis Williams preceded him in death in 1937.

Stormy Weather Dumps Heavy Snow Across Week

A week of storm brought about 28 inches of snow raising seven day totals. ground depth reached 164 inches, the deepest for the season since 1915. Strong 25 to 35 mph winds caused drifting and road closures as temperatures plunged to 16 below zero in a broad swath from Texas to Canada.

School Notes and Local Updates From Beatrice-Diller Area

Last Thursday afternoon students gathered during activity period as seniors and juniors won their basketball games while freshmen and sophomores faced losses. Friday 39 students were present but 38 were absent due to blocked roads. a declamatory contest was held last Tuesday in Sreete City. Richard TM Hays earned a superior, with Deloris Hubka Elaine Schivelle and Donald A finishing well. Weather permitting, seniors plan a classroom theatre party in Beatrice and the sophomores aim for a YMCA event tonight. Next Tuesday the Jani guide will visit Fairbury for a roller printing party. Mr. Taylor, State Superintendent of Congregational Churches, will speak at the Congregational Church in Diller on Sunday, March 14, to explain the merger. a discussion and vote will follow in the afternoon. A red-dish noon dinner will be served. bring two dishes and sandwiches. Fritz Lottman and family moved to their new home in the west part of Diller, formerly the Wright residence. Five instructors from Diller attended a child psychology class in Beatrice. Fern Hall, Mrs. Guy Learned, Shirley Branch, Mrs. Scott Miller, and Ray Renz participated. Drifting prevented several from returning home. February marks the 11th anniversary month of Moss Man's in Fairbury, with ongoing values. Mrs. Ray Nixon injured her foot moving to Crete. she recovers at her parents’ home in Crete with V. T. Logan assisting.
