Beginning Monday March Sth the Dilier school opens at 9 00 with a noon break for one hour. Classes resume at 1 00 and end at 4 00. All students are expected to attend on time.
Dec 26 1944 action at Menil Belgium shows Sgt Clark as forward observer with Co E 884th Infantry directing artillery before communications failed. His actions broke enemy assault and saved Menil from capture. commanding officer commends his initiative intelligence and professional standards.
Mrs LaForest Fasnacht reports her husband in a E lind hospital recovering from burns sustained in a gasoline explosion. He is much better though his left arm and hand remain stiff. He notes he was very happy to receive mail from France, including pictures and clippings from the Ditler Record, which he asks his sister to keep coming.
Gerd B Henrichs died Friday morning at his home southeast of Diller after a period of failing health. The obituary notes he lived in the Diller vicinity and passed away at his residence.
Mr R W Green spent the weekend in Hastings visiting his sister and family. Their nephew Pi Sut, Dean E Witty of the US C and his bride were also guests at the C lmao home. Dan is stationed at Camp Lejeune North Carolina.
Four individuals headed for induction in March depart for Fort Leavensworth next week. Ethel Ovil Weaver, Avin Eir Negus, Calvin Merle Negus, and Eldon Folkert Fanders are listed as the personnel scheduled to leave.
Cpl and Mrs Frank Webb of San Diego are visiting at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs Harry Thompson.
Mr. George Champ reported the loss of a valuable horse this week after the animal was struck and killed by an early morning train. The incident occurred near the Champ farm, prompting an inquiry into railroad safety in the area.
A World War I letter from Harry Alten describes life in the tropics aboard a well equipped ship. He notes heat rash among cooks, limited shore leave, and cramped quarters with forced air ventilation. He mentions helping with meals from 5:00 to 10:30 and that Harold remains in England, with Mrs Cavett as a familiar correspondent.
Stanley Diller leaves Sunday for Ft. Leavenworth Kansas to begin active duty after serving in the Army Reserve Corps since last May. A telegram from Robert Deck Hiatt informs parents that he will enter training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Chicago. In Gilfarth Germany a list includes Nebraska native Noe Hughes of Steele City noted for breaking a German prisoner's leg. Noel Hughes is married to Marjorie Maw of Diller.
Mrs. Lorren Stephens received a letter dated January 17 from Cpl. Royal Roskelly written in Burma. He serves with Aviation Engineers as a demolition specialist and is a former Diller boy. Verne R. Hubka, a V-12 trainee, arrived for a brief leave to visit parents Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Hubka before returning to Notre Dame.
Gerd B Heriab born February 14 1878 in Repshalt Germany immigrated to Craig Iowa in 1896 married Margaret Richters on February 6 1903 and lived at Diller farm until his death February 23 1945 at age 72 He left a wife eight children nine grandchildren two sons in law and two daughters in law plus a niece and other relatives Funeral services were held at St Pauls Ev Lutheran Church Diller with burial in Prairie Home cemetery Also noted are deaths of Amielia Dommer Craik Iowa and Amielia Bangs Sleeper Missouri with service details and family survivors including several siblings and a step mother

The Keystone Kensington of the Congregational church will meet with Mrs Eva Green on Friday afternoon March 2. A good attendance is desired. Staff Sgt Max Thompson and wife visit his parents Mr and Mrs Harry Thompson. Max will depart soon for Lincoln to be stationed at the army air base.
Diller High School reports March 19 photo day at Gale Studio Beatrice and exams set for March 26 and 27 with four seniors eligible. Snow caused a Wednesday Thursday school closure. six weeks tests continued early this week. Notables include visits by Georgia Ball and updates on Robert Hiatt’s naval training, plus improvements in Mrs McBride’s father’s illness. Junior and senior exam pass lists announced with April 14 next exams. A mixed chorus group selected from glee club members. Commencement set for May 7 in the opera house with blue and gold colors chosen. Jacob Comes Home tragedy to be staged in Plymouth March 6 with cast listed.
Mr Ray Eick Mrs Moser and Mrs Ray attended Friday’s funeral services in Steele City for Mrs Ciara Bracken. The obsequies paid respects to the late resident with family members noted among mourners.
