Hay stack accident injures resident near Diller

Mr. E. B. Deuchler of a mile and a half south and five miles west of Diller suffered serious spinal injuries Tuesday when thrown from a sixteen foot hay stack after a rope broke while operating the hay carrier. A Diller physician reported treatment and cautious optimism for recovery.

Beatrice Area Teens Enlist in U S Army Details

Wilber Ewers of Fairbury visiting relatives in Diller notes two local youths joining Uncle Sam’s regular army. Wm C Logan and Emil Tarnow depart Beatrice for Fort Logan to enter service. Logan is son of J H Logan and will join the veterinary department. Tarnow plans to resume barber work after enlisting.

Flag quality questioned after registration day

A flag purchased for registration day was deemed inferior and not fast color. The purchasing committee returned it and this week received a replacement that has floated gracefully from the flag pole in the park since Wednesday morning.

Veterinarian Dr Viers Seeks Army Reserve Commission

Dr Viers traveled to St Joseph Missouri yesterday to take the veterinary examination for a government army position. If selected he will join the reserve list and be called upon to enlist. He is a graduate of St Joseph veterinary college with an extensive local practice. the open post pays 1700 dollars yearly with quarters fuel and light provided and would rank him as second lieutenant.

Services are held in the morning and evening on June 4. All church members are urged to attend as a congregational meeting is called for after the morning worship.
