Congregational Church announces Sunday School at 10, morning service at 11, and evening service at 8. The June Tea in the annex featured a musical pageant Thy Kingdom Come. Thanks expressed to the Children's day committee for their effort during the heat wave.
Wednesday was flag day. G. C. Blauser visited relatives at Blue Springs Tuesday. A district court session opened at Fairbury Tuesday with Judge Messmore presiding. Miss Geneieve Gregg of Belville Kans spent Friday with Mrs. Geo. Riddie.
O. R. Geer announces he has taken over the Wm. Henrichs gas and oil truck and will provide good service at all times. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Filley and Miss Lucille Dewey of Wyomore return from Peru where their son Hubert Filley will enter the State Teacher's College for the summer months after a trip to the World's Fair.
The American on will handle the charge of the Fourth of July celebrations at Steele City, organizing activities and coordinating events for the town observance.
Mr and Mrs S C Hutchinson drove to Omaha Saturday and visited until Monday with their son Harold and wife. Mrs Frank Grabber and daughter Betty returned Tuesday from Lincoln where they had been visiting at the home of her sister Mrs Will Egger.
The Diller municipal band will present free concerts this summer starting Saturday evening June 17 on the City hall lawn. Everyone is cordially invited to attend.
Charley Fisher and family and Har Fisher of Steele City and Mr and Mrs Harry Fisher of Beatrice visited at their father Geo Fisher's home Sunday and helped him celebrate his birthday with a bountiful dinner.
Mrs Ethel Bauguess of Detroit spent time with friends Dr and Mrs Claude Ellis en route to Grand Island visiting her parents Mr and Mrs J C Strausser. She stopped in Chicago for a short visit at the World’s Fair and also saw friends in Omaha and Lincoln for the Nebraska homecoming.
Diller merchants have arranged with E C Wranosky of Haddam Kan to provide the city with free outdoor picture show Tuesday nights in summer. There are no strings or contests, just bring your family and enjoy. Stores will stay open and everyone is welcome.
County Supervisor Vitosh reports the P-W-F highway will be built this summer from the county line to No. 77 south of Beatrice with graveled surface from Fairbury to the county line. Graveling may wait until spring to let the grade settle and bids are invited for No. 8-S west from the town. A potential replacement of the crooked span over Indian Creek west of town is discussed.
Mr and Mrs Will Henrichs and Mrs S M Hughes visited Fairbury on Tuesday. Miss Grayce Myers traveled to Lincoln to see her brother Wm Myers and family. Helen Patton of Harbine cares for Mrs Mattie Henrichs who has been quiet poorly. Mrs Sarah Warman enjoys a visit from Mr Leslie Warman and family of St Paul Minnesota who arrived Sunday. Mr and Mrs John Carico drove to Falls City Saturday and stay with relatives and Mrs S M Beachy of Falls City who had visited their home returned with them.
Diller merchants will close Wednesday nights and stay open Tuesday nights to accommodate Free Movies shown nightly from next week. Cedar class of the Congregational church enjoyed a social at Mrs. Willis Clark's home after a picnic. Ice cream and cake followed a visit and music with guests Mrs. Clarence Steffen and son Richard, Margaret Logan, Wilhemena Behrends, and Norma Frances Green.
Miss Elsie Wolters received a pink and green themed two course luncheon and wedding bell favors after a Saturday afternoon bridge party at a kitchen shower for her upcoming marriage to Miss Elsie Wolters. Guests included Lammel Burroughs Gretzinger Murray Beatrice Tobias Harbine Excelsior Lowell Lincoln.
A local ad urges farmers to pre order twine for harvest and offers repairs for binders. C Hutchinson provides both used and new equipment and a small steel separator, inviting phone orders and advance notices of needed quantities.
Mrs Alma Henrichs of Lincoln has been visiting at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs Roy Diller and with other relatives and friends.
The five year old son of Mr and Mrs Vance Carmichael suffered a severe head cut when the pony he was driving ran into a wire on Saturday Jan 10.
Mrs. Bert Bell entertained guests at a six o'clock dinner. On Monday night the attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wenzell of Los Angeles California Mr. and Mrs. H A Bell and Mr. and Mrs. C L Waggoner and family.
Mr and Mrs Chester Sparks and daughter Pearl visited Lincoln spending the day at Mr and Mrs Joe Blair's home. Pearl stayed for summer school at the state university.
Avis Elizabeth Stengel and her daughters Wilda Beth and Mendrith Mary of Lititz Penn visit summer with her father A H Howard in Rock Creek and are occasional guests at the Scott A Miller home.
Mr and Mrs Frank Tucker of Denver Colo left Tuesday morning for Chicago to attend the World’s Fair. They were accompanied by his sister Mrs Cloyd Cully. Mrs Bell Robinson and daughter Meridith are handling home duties during the absence of their sister and aunt.
Frank T. Pearce arrives in Chicago and visits his son Earl and family while touring the World’s Fair. He notes the vast lakefront grounds three miles long, unfinished buildings, vacant booths, and exhibits such as Science, General Motors, Chrysler and Firestone, Travel and Transportation, Indian Village, and Old Fort Dearborn. Pearce plans a Racine trip with Mrs. Fred W. Merriman before returning home.
