Reported Tuesday that Claude Woods house was on fire proved to be a hoax as Woods was burning trash. A band concert is planned for Saturday night at the park for the senior group. Juniors plan their first concert appearance soon.
Beatrice based Dole Floral Company honored local shut ins by sending flowers to Diller residents this year. Recipients included Mrs. Fry Mrs Catlett Mrs Joe Dymacek and Norma Green among others.
The following named young people from the vicinity are attending summer school at Peru State Normal this season: Pearl Sparks, Max Logan, Margaret Logan, Bessie Novotny, Lydia Krebs, Gladys Lottman and Florence Nickesen.

Rev. Wolff, pastor of St. Pauls Lutheran church near town, arrived in Diller Wednesday to serve as full time pastor. He will preach at union meetings at the park next Sunday evening after a short band concert.
Mahlon Wolken spoke last Saturday evening about flood lights at the park. He lives about one and a half miles north and a little over half a mile west of town, and the lights illuminate their house enough that no other light is needed at night. When they retire, they must pull shades to block the rays.

Milon Smith of Arcadia is praised for a perfect school attendance record across grades. The piece notes Clarence Tommy Thompson of Ellis Nebraska, a Diller High School graduate, has served as superintendent for four to five years and was part of the writers Sunday class in his youth.
Geer Bros. new service station south of town announces opening day next Saturday June 16. Hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. nine on Sundays 12 p.m. They offer Phillips 66 fuel and oils with price guarantees and up to date road maps covering five states. Call at the station for service and map details.
Diller hung a loss on the Fairbury Independents last Sunday as Lohse starred for Fairbury. Diller collected nine hits with two home runs and a double driving in seven. The teams are even, each with one win, before Diller hosts Clatonia next Sunday.
The annual school meeting was held last Monday with small attendance and routine business. The Diiler school is out of debt and has cash on hand. A nine month school is planned next year and a $6000 tax request is proposed. Census shows 130 school age children, with half of the high school pupils tuition students. District assessed valuation stood at $570,311 in 1933, down from over $1 million previously.
H K Shutt arranged with Mr and Mrs Francis Clark to transfer ownership of the store building they occupy and the Shutt residence property once shared with the Rupert Andrews family. The Clarks plan a neat lay out for the new holdings.
A shut in named Grandma Fry received a bouquet last Sunday and thanks the Dole Floral Company of Beatrice for their thoughtful gesture and the delivery ladies for bringing the flowers to those unable to mingle with others.
A pony owned by Robert Hiatt son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Hiatt died last Monday. The community offers condolences and hopes the father may buy another pony for the boy in time.
Mr and Mrs Harve Pittenger argued on Thursday and will spend a few days visiting relatives and tending farm interests. They called at this office and reported rain in Lincoln Thursday morning with water standing in fields between Beatrice and Lincoln.
Mrs. Clarence Hiatt District President of the American Legion Auxiliary traveled to Hebron on Wednesday to be the guest speaker at a joint meeting of the Hebron and Alexandria Auxiliary units.
Reverend I F Miller and family from Pickrell traveled to Diller last week to visit his mother Lizzie V Miller at the grandma Fry home.
Jefferson County organizes drouth relief committees with W. C. Andreas as chair and members from Endicott Fairbury Jansen and Steele City. Precinct representatives and alternates are elected to ensure ongoing work with no compensation. Andreas notes inclusion in the secondary growth area and warns weather shifts could hasten livestock starvation.
Farmers battle chinch bugs blamed for corn damage as dry conditions persist. Reports say fields tilt with pest activity and some farmers fear total stalk loss within a week. Government ships oil barriers to counties like Gage. a 55 gallon barrel covers half a mile for three weeks and is provided free to farmers.

The Diller community forms a full committee to run the 38th annual picnic adding a parade both days with sixteen managers, a prize for best float, and a planned parade theme Yesterday and Today. A Picnic Queen will be chosen by nominations filed at the Record office with election likely on a Saturday night at the city park.
On a lively Saturday night in Diller the municipal Band gave its first outdoor concert of the season at the city park. Afterward a Kitten ball game between Barton's Dubs and Green's Dummies drew an estimated 500 spectators as players dressed in women’s attire provided comic flair while still delivering a competitive 16 to 19 score in favor of the Dubs.
The Steele City band has chosen Prof. Leland Goble of Fairbury as director. Goble previously promoted the Fairbury high school band formed last summer. Frank Crinklaw had led the Steele City band for three to four years and will naturally step aside as a professional takes charge.
